Right, so Elanee watches your PC as he enters the Swamp Ruins and leaves Fort Locke. Then she reveals herself as you're making for Highcliff.

At the Sky Mirror and then obviously so at the Circle of the Mere, it turns out she had this thing for you since you were a child.

Looking around at other message boards, some people think this makes her out and out creepy. I don't know, I didn't mind it really. It does make a little more sense in that it was part of a mission given to her by the Circle. But I can see some people thinking that this takes the cliche 'mixing business with pleasure' a bit far. What do you think?

Perhaps a little creepy for our real world standards, but I'm thinking perfectly acceptable for a druid of Faerun (or is it Eberron, well, either way). With all the time druids spend paying homage to nature, I'm sure most of them aren't particularly good at interacting with "normal folk." Elanee, I imagine, is one of the more sociable druids out there. I think we'd find other druids to be far more creepy than Elanee.

Druids are a wierd breed, but Elanee *almost* passes for normal.

She's certainly no Jaheira, eh Beren? :p

I didn't really think it was that out of place. Rather be watched from childhood by a benevolent druid than a flesh-eating monster, or psychotic half-brother. I'm with Marceror, if it was judged by RL standards it would weird me out, but in the world of fiction, all's fair in love and war :D

I don't think it makes Elanee creepy. She's not a stalker. These days people have a big phobia of stalkers, so even a mere association can perhaps destroy a perfectly good gaming character and a perfectly viable concept. The default explanation to all it is probably that the PC was a human or half-elf or something equally short-lived and Elanee, while a girl in elven categories, was able to watch over him since his birth, because of the difference in lifespan. This means eventually she'll be effectively younger than the PC (she ages at a slower rate), so he'll still be able to play the hero and the big protector. Having his own druidic protector so far, though, adds to the importance of his character. Besides, in plain words and without drama, I liked that part.

What is creepy is the way her death was handled in the expansion

Honestly there's a certain limit to "normal human attraction" and that limit is crossed when you're following someone in the shadows and watching their every move. She is quite literally stalking the PC, although the modern definition for "stalking" might not apply until she started sending random gifts and messages to the PC, (which was probably interrupted by the attack on West Harbor, so she didn't have the chance to get overly creepy).

She's not stalking the PC for romantic attraction. She's stalking him quite literally for literal reasons for typical stalking, meaning she just has a reason to see how things unfold - he's instrumental in the whole stolen shards plot. It would be different if she followed him from afar, never to make herself known etc etc. In her case, it's no voyeurism, it's comparable to military intelligence. If someone is creeped out by this, that's a result of the stalk-o-phobia of the modern society. ;)

We find out later, though, that she lost contact with the grove because of her intensive focus on PC. I don't think they ordered her to fall in love with a kid from a swamp village :).

Correct, although her watching of that kid had always been of a protective, not err... voyeuristic nature, and she has followed him to assure he's safe. Nothing sick in it. Sick is taking it for a restraining order matter. ;) I think the victim mentality has gained too much ground and people are oversensitive to such matters. ;)
