We don't need to deport anyone, we just have to make it so being here illegally isn't so attractive. As we are seeing in Arizona when it isn't the land of jobs for illegals and free money from the government, they go Home.

How's that for fantasy land becoming tomorrow world?

A lot of them do, but all of them? Isn't it a little early to say that they all will leave? What do we do with illegal immigrants that have American kids who not only don't speak Spanish but will not be considered Mexican citizens if "returned" to Mexico? What about the self employed? Illegal immigrants who are self employed won't be caught by these registration laws. Illegals who work as contractors won't be caught by such laws. Companies who elect to hire "private contractors" instead of employees also won't be affected by such laws. Illegals who work "under the table" won't be caught by such laws. Given this reality, it should be obvious that documenting the undocumented would serve as a positive step in addition to penalizing employers who hire undocumented workers and securing the borders.

    Fair enough, Drew.

Nevertheless, with Edwards gone, I have not decided where to put my support, as of yet.

That's nice, except it isn't what the candidates you're defending are saying. They're explicitly stating that we need to deport 12 million people.

I don't need to explain why that's ridiculous.

Not likely, I'm afraid - at least on the Democratic side. Both campaigns acknowledge that today won't likely end in a decisive victory and they're planning on slogging on through March (which is both a good and bad thing, IMO). Word on the street is, though Hillary is expected to come out ahead, if Obama comes within 100 delegates of her he'll likely go on to win the nomination, since the states after Super Tuesday tend to favor Obama. Particularly my home state.

The Republicans are a different story, though. We'll see if the Republican establishment and right-wing media outlets have been successful in their assault on McCain over the last week. If they were, then either Romney will garner enough support to get the nod or at least enough to keep things going a while longer (I think the latter is more likely in this case). I also expect Huckabee to drop out some time tomorrow after he loses, and I would assume he'll endorse McCain (there's been a lot of talk of him wanting McCain's VP spot, though I don't think the case is very strong).

I have heard that too. It's mostly because nearly all of the states that are voting today are NOT like Florida. In other words, they aren't "Winner takes all" primaries and delegates are divided up among the canidates proportionally to their vote totals. Therefore, in a contest where Hillary and Barack are both receiving about half the total vote, I agree that you likely will not see a clear-cut winner unless one of them takes a majority in nearly all the states.

On a related issue, in watching the debates Obama has won me over. He wasn't my first choice, but from everything I have seen and heard up to this point, I view him as a better canidate than Hillary.

I'm glad. I'm finding that people tend to warm up to him the more they see him in action. Hillary seems to have the opposite effect.

None of the Democratic primaries/caucuses are winner-take-all; the Republican party does have a few (such as Florida and Maine).

I was unaware of that. While the nomination will not be secured tonight, I suppose there is the possibility of one canidate emerging as a front-runner. If Hillary or Obama should win 2/3 of the states, even if the vote totals are nearly split, I imagine it would give that person enough momentum going forward.

Oh, definitely, and both the Clinton and Obama camps have been doing their best to lower expectations for Super Tuesday so they can claim victory regardless of actual tallies. On the Republican side, I think this is going to be a big day for McCain--it won't seal it, but I think he's going to have a huge delegate lead after today.

When are the actual nominations going to be decided, by the way? I'm running out of popcorn ;)

Shaman, the Democratic national convention is August 25-28, with the Republican one the following four days after. So don't eat the popcorn too fast.

Well, looking at the CNN coverage really quickly, it actually looks like McCain and Huckabee are the winners so far, with Romney doing fairly poorly. My guess is this will 'revitalize' Huckabee's campaign significantly. Truth-be-told, I think the left-wing media has significantly underplayed and underestimated Huckabee's support thus far.

DR - He means Rush and Ann. They will both have to enter shock-therapy, if McCain wins....

I can't imagine Rush or Ann doing to well if Hukabee wins either as he's as much a tax and spend type as any liberal. Maybe, however the two have made comments proving me right or wrong, but since the only time I listen to anything they say is when someone posts a link with them in it on this web site means I wouldn't be aware of their stance.

I'd love to see how the Republican party deals with McCain (seeing how many card carrying Republicans hate him) or Hukabee (seeing as how big business hates him) winning the nomination.

Oh, I'm well aware, but most Republicans I know magically overlook military spending and place it in it's own little magical category known as "spending money without really spending money". I.e. is isn't money going to those dodgy single mothers scamming the welfare system or unnecessary education programs.

Also I can never seem to get straight answers about corporate bailouts and other types of corporate welfare from those conservatives I know. That is spending right? Maybe I overlooked the fact that corporations spend so much money lobbying that they're entitled to get that money back when they need it.
