I've been through BG2 umpteen times and ToB 4 times I think (once for each romance...) but so far my BG2 is definatly unmodded. :p
I'm not interested in difficulty mods but certainly wouldn't mind some extra quests or romances - my criteria is that any mod would have to be pretty much bomb proof. My main bugbear is the lack of romanceable male NPCs - as a woman I feel slightly insulted that the only option is a shiny knight (OK, Anomen is troubled and complex but he's still a pain and his dialogue makes me cringe) when most women like the idea of bad boys or strong silent types. Just wondering if there's a Valygar mod out there (I know there is something involving an ex, but I'm more interested if there's a mod for him and the PC) or how reliable the Edwin mod is (well Eddy is fun!)
And yeah I have heard good things about the Kelsey mod but will consider that one later.

Well, I confess I dont know any offhand, but have a look here:

    http://modlist.pocketplane.net/index.php?ax=list&cat_id=5

At least one of them should be male NPCs with romance scripts written.

For other mods, depending on what you want, you might be interested in:

BG2 Fixpack - unofficial bug fix pack.
Unfinished business - ties up a few loose ends, implements stuff that was unfinished but left in the game.
BG2 Tweak pack - ease of use and other convenience fixes.

Any other mod advice, just ask. Anything in particular you are looking for? Mostly just new NPCs?

For extra quests go for Quest Pack, Tower of Deception and Dungeon Crawl. All are good mods and part of my regular BG2 install. Be careful with Unfinished business however as I've had some bad experience with it (although I heard that most of the bugs have been fixed). It does contain some good stuff so it's worth a shot, just double check it's forums and readme ;)

Then go for the Banter Pack, Flirt pack and best of all Romantic encounters (which offers plenty of "adventuring" for female NPCs as well).

As for new NPCs someone else will have to help you with that since I've only used Bioware's original line up.

Not entirely sure, as I have never finished it. However, I have not had a problem with it so far and the dialogue can be brilliant. Certainly one to strongly consider.

As far as I am aware, there isn't a finished Valygar mod out there yet.

As to other NPCs, here are a few:

Kivan (G3, Domi/Ashara) and Xan (PPG, Kulyok) are two established Male Romanceables for BG2 that spring to mind as well written, solid, fan-followed Male Joinable romances. In both cases, there is conflict, angst, and romance, which seems to be de rigeur for the folks playing deeply. Both have modders who back their work up and assist players. Both are extremely stable; much more stable than vanilla BG2 romances, and come with documentation and forums that can assist you if you get stuck, as well as solid fan bases.

Angelo (G3) has just been released for those interested; I have not extensively studied/reviewed it, but the writer (Sister Vigilante) is interesting and fresh/zippy, and the coder (Kulyok) is top notch.

Both Gavin, an independent Morninglord of Lathander (berelinde, G3) and Ajantis, Paladin of BG fame (Jastey, G3) are making rapid progress, but are not yet available for BG2. If you want in on the testing level, they are two authors who are very interested in helpful fan feedback and alpha testing.

I am ashamed to admit that I have not yet looked at Kelsey, for writing or code. I know there are folks who love him and those who hate him, and that he has some steamy moments. And that the FlirtPack is less steamy than those moments. JCompton is the author (Keto, Nalia), and I tend to really like (and try to copy/use) his multiple pathways approaches to dialogue, giving the player lots of ays to respond and interact. (I also think that if he ever made Keto a romanceable, this here boy would drop Taisha on her pretty blonde butt in a second, and I'd be chasing a certain redhead with a smart, funny attitude and a penchant for drink...)

If you are just looking for some fun romps, and perhaps some entertaining flirty encounters, there is both male and female romance, flirting, mischief, annoyance, and some rather... err... adult.. content in Romantic Encounters (G3). [warning - I am an author on some of these, so take my recommendation with a dash of salt]. For females/female <CHARNAME>s, there are all sorts of possibilities, including a young paladin that you can *ahem* make wise in the ways of the bedroom, Renal Bloodscalp can visit you for an after-hours discussion (or not), Henryk can find things to help you with, Aran Linvale can invite you to a dinner, and if you favor the ladies, Chanelle the Maid can help you out if you get the D'Arnese Keep cleared (she is written as equal opportunity steaminess, though dudes have to watch out... there could be unintended consequences). You can even be hit on (repeatedly) by Noober. So, lots of interesting encounters for the "speed dater", ranging from innocent to decidedly adult.

As for Valygar, lots of talk, over and over - but he seems to be a tough romance to write. Folks start, but don't really finish.

Don't listen to cmorgan's warning, he's just being modest ;). Romantic Encounters has got to be one of the craziest and most entertaining mods I've seen so far, really you have to try it. Some encounters are pretty spicy though :p
