Guess what? Aegor won. Shar-Teel died. How? I'll explain.

Since we were in Beregost, we decided to beat the snot out of Tranzig (hey, why not, right?). Wrong. He whupped our asses. Nahal died. Reload. Tiax summoned his ghoul, and we slew him. That ghoul is pretty overpowered, I'm going to avoid using it too much. Next, we cleared house with the spiders: Command Word: Die and Colour Spray took out a whole lot of them. Xan levelled up, after Tranzig so we hit High Hedge for Mirror Image (which he took) and Horror (for Nahal). We even managed to deal with a few skeletons on the way, and, feeling very much like Big Boys, we decided to do something completely irrational and stupid. We decided to take on ankhegs.

We reported in with the Spider-House dude first, of course, then set off. Tiax went first to scout, and saw some little tentacles in the ground. We attacked. First round: Shar-Teel is blasted with an acid breath thing; bye bye baby. It soon got Commanded to Fall Asleep by Tiax, but another one rollicked along and killed Xan. Long story short: Colour Spray, ghoul. Without Shar-Teel, I couldn't loot both shells, so we had to leave one on the ground. With Draw Upon Holy Might Branwen could manage to lift one while slowed, but not with platemail. So, we had her take the shell, walk towards the edge, and somebody else would give her platemail back and walk towards the same direction, thereby crawling the three of us away. We managed to get to Beregost (god knows how they travelled), and I CTRL+J'ed us to the smithy (we would've gotten there eventually...) and commisioned the armour.

Why do I keep doing stupid stuff? Why? I've expended all of the warrior NPCs available to me now; looks like we're going to have to hold up for Coran and Yeslick. Tymora bless our path.

I've installed the BG Tweak Pack: NWN styled HP on level up. Also, I just remembered the existence of Indira. Looks like we have to pay Firewine a visit.

About twenty minutes after picking up Indira, we went to the High Hedge to bolster her spells, and she got killed by skeletons. That's what you get for having a piddly 8HP. Nahal looted her chain mail, which is equippable by mages and allows him to cast spells. C'est la vie, darling. Now I am officially out of fighters. Go me.

Who's Indiria? Is she a mod NPC?

Indeed she is. Made by Ghreyfain.

Quick update: Branwen's dead. Three ghasts ganged up on her. The worst part is, those ghasts weren't a match for Tiax's ghoul.

    Prospect: Grim.
    Deathmage: Depressed.

Oh dear. Grim could be an understatement. I wouldn't worry about the ghoul being overpowered- you need all the help you can get. At this point, you should just pick up anyone you can regardless of whether they are warriors- a couple of extra arrows could help stop another one biting the dust.

You inspire me, man. I have got to try this. I usually play with reloads to wring out storylines, but this looks like a true challenge!

DM, it seems that the ghoul is the true survivor in your party, as absurd as it seems... :)

    Very interesting run.

    GNOLL STRONGHOLD ATTACKED BY ADVENTURERS
    As reported by: Gnoll Veteran.

Last eve, the mighty gnoll stronghold was attacked by adventurers, and many of our kinfolk were slain - including even our mighty chieftan. What's even more surprising is that there were only apparently three adventurers: two humans, and one gnome. One of the humans was a wizard, the other a bard (one survivor, Gnoll, reports the name of "Eldoth"), and the gnome was apparently a foul master of the undead, for upon the entrance on the bridge he summoned forth a deadly ghast. The beast lumbered forth, to be challenged by our two ogre gatekeepers, and Hairtooth slammed a lucky 20-HP critical hit on the ghast. 'twas lucky that he did so, otherwise the ghast would've been much more problem than it already was. However, our brave wardens soon fell under the combined missiles of the adventurers, and the beast rollicked along. The bard, Eldoth, was said to have put on the gloves, reducing his THAC0 to an impressive 16 (whatever this means). The adventurers went forth, hiding behind their fell ghast, who quickly devastated the gnolls and xvarts along the way. However, as it turned up the stairs, our brave brothers rounded upon it - and with their combined powers, slew it. The adventurers turned to flee, but it was only a ruse, for they would pause every so often to launch missiles at us. Damn the creators of the BG1TuTu mod, for otherwise our speed may have matched theirs!

Alas, the wizard charmed one of our brothers against each other, and he himself was soon put down. They continued, until they saw the group with the chieftan, who was deep in his drinks and merely ordered his men to give chase. The wizard launched a colour spray that stopped many dead in their tracks, and eventually all were wiped out by slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. The chieftan, deciding to take up arms against the veritable sea of troubles, charged forth, but the wizard spewed forth some spell that surged and caused both him and chieftan to slow down. The gnome made our courageous chieftan fall over, and the foul bard took his poisoned arrows and shot him in the chest. When the chieftan woke up, the dastardly travellers ran circles around him until the poison worked its deadly ways. The brothers behind were younguns who were similiarly dispatched with missile weapons, and the travellers managed to rescue our delicious captive.

However, after they rested, their leader was slain by a group of xvarts, and turned into a pile of dust. We are safe once more.

Fortunately, I had a save before talking to Dynaheir... :D
And that's how it went. Tiax is quickly becoming hugely useful, and levelled up around here. His backstab took out several gnolls. Eldoth is becoming a good archer with the gloves of dexterity. Nahal levelled up to four, and Dynaheir was also level four when we picked her up.

I didn't use cheese to lure the chieftan's mates out. I actually WANTED the chieftan to come out so I could Charm him, but, well, he didn't want to. Not my problem.

Before doing the stronghold, we cleared out the area before it too, returning the dead cat and hunting two more winter wolves (with the ghast, of course). Another 1000GP is on the way.

Tiax seems to have a strange problem. When we picked him up, he had four level four spells, but when he levelled up in Cleric, he LOST a spell slot. Strange, no? Also, Eldoth has two flavours of Fire Arrows, one of them is normal and the other has +2 THAC0. I think the latter was from Indira. Lastly, Dynaheir babbled to me about her journal (I guess it's the BG1NPC mod), but when I told her we'll look for it my journal updated with an entry about Drizzt (whom we haven't met yet). How odd.

Everyone is utterly out of spells and missiles now, so we have to hightail out of there before somebody comes along and kills us. Still, things are looking up...

Yeah, that line about Drizzt is an error. I told cmorgan about it and sent him a couple of save files. Weird bug.

I hate to say this, but... I can't WAIT to see who dies next!

I take it you chose not to restore BG1 walking speeds and do not have Hard Times installed, either. Either of those would make your game even more of a nightmare. Not that I'd mind seeing anyone try it...

Good to see you are still making progress. I guess the southern part of the map could be your best bet to clear out for EXP.

Tiax had four level 4 spells? A typo?

Gnoll fortress is very easy if you have a few sleep spells. Gnolls always fall for that.

I tried to make Xan a F/M but it turned out that he no longer can use his moonblade when he is a F/M. BUT, I had Xan BG2 mod and it had a version of the moonblade usable by F/M Xan. So I threw that item to TuTu's override folder, CLUConsoled it and voila! Xan was a proper F/M with his Moonblade.

Though I had to change him for Dynaheir, she is a sorcerer in my game and my wild mage can throw fireballs with her now. Two fireballs, pretty much clears out anything in a blink. Plus she romances my PC and is a decent sort. So much better than the gloomy elf, even with shield spell, a decent shield, protection from evil etc. the guy dies pretty easy when forced to melee. It may be du to the fact that I play SCS and play on hard difficulty, but, heh. :)

I'm getting rather depressed at this game...many things has happened. I shall attempt to recount them faithfully.

But first, changes: I installed BG1 Weapon Proficiencies.
Justification: It's how the game's meant to be played.
Secret Reason: Eldoth can finally use that Short Sword +1.
I had to ShadowKeeper their proficiencies to what they should be, but I did it without cheating or anything.

Anyways, we left the stronghold because we had no ammunition or whatever. I'll return later with Coran. We attempted to go to Larswood, but failed because Nahal kept getting killed by gibberlings. Yes, I said gibberlings. Shut up. So, we decided to pick up Safana. We poked around for ages in the entirely wrong area, but discovered that we could now reliably take on ogrillons, ogres, half-orcs, etc, with a combination of skill, wit, and running around. The ghast, however, is quickly becoming obsolete, and for some reason even falls to gibberling swarms. We soon found the right area and picked up Safana, whereupon we went back to Beregost. She nicked Taerom's sword from the smithy at night, and when we visited at day he gave us the ankheg plate mail. Having nobody else to give it to, we gave it to Tiax.

I may not have mentioned it before, but to keep Shar-Teel happy we broke into someone's house at Beregost and killed a commoner. I've since been using that house as my storage space, and we have some good loot as well as souvenirs there, such as Xan's Moonblade. We equipped Safana up with our spare Short Sword +1, and then set out again.

By the way, I had to ShadowKeep Safana's thieving skills back. Because of TuTu, she had a freaking 100 in Detect Illusion. What the hell is the point? That skill is useless in BG1 anyway. I had to look up her BG1 stats by going back into BG and summoning her creature. I'm a little miffed, because I shouldn't have to do this. It should be a separate component or something. Anyways, she has huge Open Locks, decent Find Traps, and lacklustre anything else, which is a shame because we could use a good scout.

We carried on, and went to Larswood after a bit of general bumming around/getting killed. One such incident involves Nahal Burst!ing his entire party to death, but he was then - happily - killed by a gibberling. Anyways, we went to Larswood and killed Treven without problem - we managed to lure him out alone, whereupon Dynaheir and Tiax pelted him with spells and Eldoth poisoned him (Eldoth's poison arrows are immensely useful; we stayed in town for a few days just so he could make a decent supply). Then, we got ready to challenge the bandits, but thought we would rest first, at the edge of the map, just in case.

    ...

Our rest was interrupted by bandits. Two of them - two - simultaneously scored critical hits on Eldoth, doing ten damage each. He died.

    ...

In fury, our party descended upon the bandits, and slew them easily. Eldoth was much mourned, and I vowed to destroy the Bandit Camp and kill every single one of the bastards.

On our way to the Bandit Camp, Safana began complaining that we haven't visited her cave yet, so we took a detour and went back to that area. Upon arrival, dread wolves jumped us. One was distracted by the ghast, the other attacked Dynaheir. She fled, into the waiting sights of a Hobgoblin Elite, who shot and poisoned her...and then she got bit on the arse by the wolf and died.

Saemon Havarian: "This is not a good tendays."

Long story short: We're now stuck, pretty much, facing a bunch of hobgobbo elites, and then further down the beach we have the freakin' sirines. Things are grimmer than they have ever been, and I can't even leave the area to pick up other NPCs least Safana becoming upset and leave.

Now, I have one final ace up my sleeve: Edwin. I plan to pick him up ASAP, hit the bandits as best I can, and then run the hell to Cloakwood for our hero, Coran. Let us hope that all goes well.

As an aside, NPC corpses apparently stay on the ground. It was depressing when we walked past Branwen and Xan's corpses. Maybe I should've dumped them all in the middle of Beregost or something.

I'm going to either go to sleep, or play more normal people games where I'm allowed to reload and not have to suffer the death of my beloved friends. :p

    Mini-Poll
    Will anyone survive?
    • Tiax
    • Safana
    • Edwin
    • Alora
    • Coran
    • Yeslick
    • Quayle

Personally, I have good hopes about Yeslick. High Con, heavy armour, good fighter, self-healing, etc. Coran might be another survivor, or at least I darn well hope he will be. Safana will probably be a goner sooner or later, as will Quayle...Tiax's endurance has been surprising the hell out of me. Edwin has a decent Con, but is a mage and will probably die to some freak accident. Alora is my favourite NPC in the BG series bar none, and so I don't really want to think about what gruesome fate she'll be forced to endure.

    Vote on!

You can't go wrong with Coran. Unless you get a random encounter. Those wyverns can be a handful. Otherwise a F/T pwns the Sword Coast with hit'n run tactics...

While Coran is deadly, he doesn't wear heavy armour (at least, not if he's thieving), so I can see him dying in an accident when things were starting to go well. Of course, if you are just using him as an archer, he may well survive. But the odds are against it.

My favourite would be Yeslick- although if Tiax does as well as he has been doing, he could be The Survivor.

Aye. It seems that there is some basis behind Tiax's claim that he can rule all...

    Current equipment:
Nahal: Knave's Robe, sling, Ring of Wizardry, Ring of Protection +1
Tiax: Ankheg armour (AC -2!), Ring of Holiness, Boots of Avoidance, Helm of Infravision (because it looks cool), club, shield, sling
Safana: Studded Leather Armour +1, Short Sword +1, Boots of Eletrical Resistance?
Other Nifty Stuff: Arrows of Fire, 25ish, Arrows of Biting, Arrows of Ice. We also have a spare set of Plate Mail in our hideout (formerly of Branwen).

Maybe its just me thats kinda confused, but isn't Safana a thief? I was thinking of the boots of stealth instead of the boots of grounding, but maybe you have someone else for scouting?

I haven't got the Boots of Stealth yet, so she's sticking with the second-best boot at the moment. It's been ages since I've played, I've completely forgotten where I could pick up those boots from.

You can find them in one of the areas between FAI and Beregost.

    Keep up the good story.
