Ah, yes, head lice. The bane of every elementary school I've ever heard of. The awful thing is kids get it so easily from each other and then bring it home to share with everyone, and if the family doesn't figure it out quickly they have to go through major work to eliminate the eggs from bedding, toys, clothes, never mind the kids. Yuk.

Just thinking about it makes my scalp itch . . .

Made it to the store and back this morning, without too much trouble. Naturally forgot several things and now have to decide if I can live without them until after Christmas. I am so crowd averse it almost amounts to a phobia. Maybe not, since the reaction is mostly hostile rather than fearful.

Where's my +5 Clear the Way Two Handed Hammer?

Oh, well. Happy December 20. Must be some holiday somewhere.

According to the Catholic calender of Saint today there's a bunch of Saint's "day" or whatever today. link

Not that I give any credence to my former Catholic faith anyway. You can call me Ofelix the Apostate :p

Edit: Still haven't got my final grades, I don't know if I passed or failed. The wait is driving me crazy...

I had no idea there were so many saints. Saint Zeno? Obviously not the Greek philosopher.

Re the grades, oh do I sympathize. Nothing for it but to wait, I guess.

It is raining here but expected to turn to snow overnight. This will infuriate the local children because, not only is it Sunday, but even if the snow lasts (probably won't) it's a total waste because they are already out of school for the Christmas break and therefore can't look for a day off because of snow. If you follow that line of reasoning.

Yes, I live in that part of the U.S. where even small amounts of snow paralyze us.

OTOH, very Christmasy and all that.

After 2 years I may finally be upgrading my internet beyond 256k. Now I just need to convince my dad. Which could take another 2 years. :bad:

Our High speed is still out. And this week the Dial up connection has not been stable either. I dread the backlog in the Alleys...

I knocked down the ice that I had started to build into a sculpture and placed it a different spot in a different formation. I've decided that I will indeed make a little ice-room outside. At night I will probably light candles inside it to make it look brilliant. Unfortunately I've already broken several of the buckets I was using to make the ice. I'm going to have to find an alternative way to freeze big blocks of ice so that I can get this thing built before it gets warm out again.

Actually lighting candles is a good idea, the heat will cause some of the ice from the roof and walls to melt a little. However you must make sure the ice room is close, to keep the heath in the room. Then you put out the candles and let the water refreeze. It'll act as a natural sealant preventing air and cold as well as strengthening the whole structure. I've done winter camping in the past, it's really fun but you do need preparation.

Camping during the winter is not fun. A few years back we camped near some hot springs...I'll admit it was fun being in the 110 degree springs for a soak while it was snowing, that was the only enjoyable part of the trip. :bad:

Speaking of snow...today is the only day this week we won't have a snow storm, but hey, it looks like we're going to be having a White Christmas this year....now doesn't that just make you fell all warm and fuzzy inside? :p

See it from the bright side: Today is the winter solstice, meaning that for the next six months days will only get longer.

@Kit: This means that in half a year you'll be cursing the sweltering Utah heat! :p

I am sick and it is snowing, which means I get to shovel the driveway while sick, which sucks.

Yeh, it sounds like it sucks. The bright side of not having snow in Aus is not having to do anything about the snow. :p

The High speed came back on this morning, but it is not as fast as it was before. I wonder how long the connection will stay this time...

No snow here, but it is very cold for East Tennessee, with a wind chill warning in effect. Low tonight is forecast at 7F, which is nearly -14C.

OTOH, first sunny day in a week today, with more sunshine tomorrow, and a relatively fast warmup as the week goes on to normal December temperatures.

Happy Hanukkah, to our Jewish friends.

Actually I wasn't intending to camp in it. I like the idea but we don't live in the nicest neighborhood in the city so I prefer to be behind locked doors when I sleep.

Every year for the last 8 or so years I've been making a free-form ice sculpture during the winter. With the weird weather patterns we've been having I sometimes have them melt at some point in the winter and then I have to rebuild. That's beside the point however :D. I usually put a lot of thought into the sculptures as I build them although I really never know how they are going to turn out until I finish them. This year I decide that I would make an architectural organic ice-sculpture. I'm not going for the "ice hotel" look. I want something that talks about the nature of ice. If anyone is interested in seeing what I'm making I could make an album of my ongoing documentation. I also have a series of pics of the one I did last year from start to finish.

Just one week to holidays. Looking forward to it, especially since I have to clear up some electricity permits before New Year.

    Pizza is heavenly food.

Magister, stop hitting your head, you'll only end up with a mistake + headache combo. :p

Sounds cool D'Fly...I'd like to see how that sort of thing is done. :D

We've got enough snow out front to make several large snowmen, I was thinking of making an "8-bit snowman"...however, I lack the correct shaped buckets and the energy to do so.

In other news, I tossed each of our cats in the snow again today. The strong winds we've been having caused a lot of snow to pile up alongside the house...so they ended up landing in 4 feet of soft powder, totally disappearing until finally finding their way out and back inside.
