[IMG] Politics and cars, it doesn't get much more dangerous than that! :D

Limo One is believed to weigh between seven and eight tons, and spy shots suggest it rides on a GM medium-duty truck chassis propelled by a diesel engine. The body is sheathed in military-grade armor as much as 8 inches thick on the doors (each of which weighs as much as the cabin door on a Boeing 747, Motor Authority says). The armor reportedly is a mix of dual-hardness steel, aluminum, titanium and ceramic. The windows are ballistic glass said to be 5 inches thick, and Dan Neil of the Los Angeles Times says there's probably a woven Kevlar mat covering the floorboard to protect the car from blasts. The cabin is believed to feature a sealed air recirculation system to protect its occupants from chemical attacks.

Impressive, to say the least! Anyone want to speculate as to the cost? ;)

Hmm. Our chancelloress only rides in an up-armored Mercedes S class. Less safe, but certainly a lot environmentally friendlier :shake: But then, there are more of them around than of this beast above, that means more similar targets and the advantage of relative anonymity.

    But yes, impressive vehicle.

More than that. May even be million(s), considering it has been built exclusively for this purpose, a custom model. (I'm just guessing, of course.) I haven't checked out the prices for a few years, but I guess that $500,000 may just be the price of a full-featured security Bentley which "anyone" can purchase -- it's not such a horrible sum for a security car.

On a side note, it's obvious that it's not the car which eventually will protect the American president from the possible deadly attacks, it's really just the last protection (against simple firearms, it's perfect, of course, but a well-organized attack is another question). Without the much planning and preparation regarding the area/route used by the President, his life would be in much danger. For example, this car would immediately surrender itself to a simple anti-tank missile, something which can be carried easily and can be launched from a shoulder of a single person. So the presidential Secret Service has much greater responsibility than the creators of this car :)

Has anybody watched the Dave Chappelle stand-up where he talks about being the first black president. He says it'd be fine to be the second or third, but the first... no way.

However, he says if he was the first he'd be safe because (and I feel terrible for writing this)... he'd have a Mexican vice-president.

I thought that was amusing, and sort of relevant as a security plan :p. That car is certainly the more PC choice though. And really awesome. I hope someday I can afford one.

I called Cadillac and asked, but the friendly and cordial representative had no idea....so I went ahead and called the Office of the Public Liason for the president. Their switchboards were, unfortunately, tied up (and I doubt my calling up with such a pointless question helped matters, either). I went ahead and sent them an e-mail, instead. I'll let you know if they send me an answer. :)

    So, wasting our money already?

Ok, but seriously, it's good to see people are taking security seriously.
