The wife was a medical guinea pig a few years back (they used the term "Medical Research Study Participant")... :p It was for a new drug that's supposed to prevent a woman from getting herpes...nice idea, but why it's only for women is beyond me. Anyway, after getting a dozen or so vials of blood drawn to make sure she didn't have any STDs and to get some "virgin blood" samples, they gave her the shot, and then we went back every 2-3 weeks so they can draw more blood. IIRC, she got $400 from it...and she only passed out 4-5 times. :p She doesn't do well with needles and blood.

    *shudder*
I hate needles. HATE. Passing out is common when I get a shot, it's MUCH worse when they actually draw blood. :(

Actually its kind of funny that I remember squeezing the little fireflies because I must have been really young to have done that. Most of my childhood I played with bugs and would have never dreamed of hurting them. It still bothers me to think that I did that. Not to mention the ick factor of rubbing bug-guts on my wrist.

She can handle a shot just fine...it's when they draw blood that she can't handle. I think it all started with my dad. He's a medical technician, so to save some $$$ whenever we needed some blood work done, he would draw our blood at home, then take it in to work the next day. Well....one of the times he didn't inspect one of the vials good enough, because if he had, he would have seen that it was chipped...so as he's drawing Jessica's blood, it ended up all over the floor. To make things worse, he says, "Oh look, there's all your blood!" and just like that, she was out cold. :bad:

    [IMG] Whoa... same.

I've passed out from an overly graphic description of an injection before. I just can't handle it. I freak out on such an extreme level it isn't even amusing.

One time the doctors/nurses made the mistake of thinking if I keep trying to escape they will just have to make it so I can't! Yeah, they soon learnt the meaning of 'flight or fight' :( I just lose it.

I dreamed of doing an astronomy degree when I was a kid. I then changed my mind when I realised that all the physics in it meant a lot of math, so I doubt I'd be very helpful :)

Go in the house & look at the wife with a thoughtful look & lie to her by saying "is your butt getting BIGGER?"
If that doesn't get you killed the subsequent chase & beating will at take your mind off your headache:D

Oh procrastination why art thou so compelling? So sayeth the Flix*!

*The same Flix who's posting here instead of doing his reading...

Edit: I just received an email from my university account from the classical studies department saying I could learn biblical Hebrew if I wanted...uh...Isn't the term biblical Hebrew derogatory anyway?

Another night of me saying "I'll go to bed early tomorrow" except that I probably will, this time.

On injections - I don't mind them much, especially since my mom usually administers the shots to me. I prefer to watch the injection process, rather then look away - it makes me less nervous.
    Inhalations rule, of course. :p

The main thing that gets me nervous about injections is the thought of air embolism, :bad: which is pretty ridiculous, I know, but I can't really shake it off, down to the point of actually treating all of my lab syringes (for reactions) like they were medical ones (you know, tapping them and squeezing a drop of liquid out before injecting, to insure there is no air in the needle).

Blood is my favourite tissue. No problems with it.

First intramural basketball game today. It's co-ed, with some funky rules (girls shots are worth one more point, etc) should be fun.

Apparently those are guidelines established by some IM sport coalition (lolz). Another crappy rule is that guys are not allowed to block a girls shot, it acts as an automatic goaltending penalty. So, in designing the team I got big girls (6-0, 5-10, 5-8) who can shoot. Which basically ensures free shots worth extra points. YAYA!

I hate cryptic error messages in computer softwares...

I was trying to convert some videos in my Zen* PMP** format, they were in Dvix format and the bloody thing don't support it, of course. So, I tried to convert them, but the software wouldn't let me, saying " Failed to convert, see software for more information ". But all the damn software would tell me is " Failed to convert " that's all... yeeeeeeeeeeah that's helping me. Is it 'cause of missing codecs? Is it 'cause the container (avi files in this case) isn't supported? Just why did it fail damnit?

*That's the last time I buy an electronic thing out of hype, damn you TV! Why the hell anyone would want a portable video player in 4:3 format?
**: Portable Media Player: in case anyone was wondering.

EDIT: Isn't it weird that the word homophobia means "fear of homosexuality" when in fact the semantic root of the greek ὁμός (omos) which gave the English (and several other European languages) Homo- actually mean "same", like in homograph "same writing" or homophone "same sound" so in fact etymologically homophobia should mean "fear of the same". Weird, uh?

That's the entomologists expressing their opinion that homophobes are closet gays.

 sure :p I was merely pointing out what seems to me an etymological nonsense.

To clarify thing I've nothing against homosexuals and I don't approve of any segregation regardless of the cause. Well, except for stupidy we can't have 'em in a University!

Are you trying to get this edition of RBP moved to the AoDA?

In other news, I've fallen in with a good D&D group. We totally lose track of time when we play...
