I decided against thread resurrection on this topic. I saw this article about poor Bristol and her snot nosed boyfriend and wondered "what is Sarah doing now? Does she think she can be a part of the next Presidential election?

For obvious reasons she's kinda dropped off the national and international radar but I wonder if she's gone or simply biding her time. Thoughts?

As for Bristol, someone shoulda told her that high school romances don't have a very good statistical chance of survival.

I would guess biding her time, the Republicans seems to be hesitant in picking a figurehead although there doesn't seem to be a tradition of a united opposition in the US with a clearly designated leader.

I think it's obvious they were never going to get married in the first place. They'd patched together a shotgun wedding for the Presidential campaign and whether they stayed together or not after the swearing in - assuming McCain won - was irrelevant. I feel bad for both of those kids for the pressure that was unnecessarily put on them by her narcissistic mother.

As for Sarah - she's been in the news plenty, at least here in the states - moreso than McCain. She's done dozens of TV and media interviews since the election where she whines about how the media are out to get her, and she's already started to put her feelers out for a top-ticket run in 2012. Chutzpah, she's got it.*

Part of me hopes the Republicans are as foolish and disjointed in 2 years as they are now, and she gets the nomination (which will ensure a cakewalk reelection for Obama). But another part of me hopes the Republicans actually get their heads in the game in the next two years and nominate someone who isn't a laughingstock. So that if Obama does win a second term, he will have earned it (or, if the Repubs nominate a genuinely superior candidate than Obama, then we have a new administration fair and square). That rules out Palin, Giuliani and (if recent performance is any indication) Jindahl. I tend to think it'll be Mittens, but he isn't exactly threatening to Obama at this point. At this point I don't see any other possible contenders. If Palin is the best they have, that alone is a pretty sad statement for the Republicans.

    * That was not a compliment.

Right now the Republican Party is involved in an ugly power struggle. They decided, very foolishly, to embrace Rush at CPAC, along with Ann Coultergeist. Now they think they run the party, which is a huge mistake for the Republicans -- if they wish to win elections. If they just wish to be the noisy party of "NO," and oppose everything they don't approve, they could not have picked better company to represent them. That's really too bad, because divided govenment seems to work better than one party with all the levers of power.

There is plenty of opportunity for Sarah to get in on the action, and she's setting her sights for just that. I believe someone will emerge out of the wilderness of the wastelands to restore order to the GOP before 2012. That person will have to stand up to Rush though, and tell him to essentially "butt out," and let the people who know what they are doing take over. That person will more than likely not be Sarah (at least she has not shown that kind of courage thus far). Still, she will be a major player.

I think just about every newspaper in America (regardless of political affiliation) told her that over and over and over....

What about Tim Pawlenty? He seems to have all the necessary Republican credentials. He's relatively young, he's the governor of a battleground state, and he's even an Evangelical Christian. Check, check and check.

Good point. I forgot about him.

Yes, he has 'Pawlenty' of credentials. (ba-doom tish!)

Thank you, thank you - try the fish.

Who the hell is Mittens? Is that your term for Mitt Romney? If so, I've never heard it before. I thought we weren't supposed to nickname politicians anymore.

In any event, Mitt would be a better choice than Palin, and I'm not just saying that because he's Mormon. But he'd still never have a chance, precisely because he is Mormon. Maybe as VP.

Yes, I was referring to Mitt Romney. It is a nickname, and one that I don't see as particularly offensive, but if you disagree I can refrain from using it.

I agree, Mitt would be a much better choice than Palin. But that's kind of like saying Diet Coke is a much better choice than bleach - kind of goes without saying to any sane person. I don't like how shamelessly Mitt changes positions to pander to the far right (as he's actually far more moderate and reasonable himself), but he at the very least is competent, fairly bright and reasonably policy-minded. Sarah Palin is just ridiculous.

Yeah, but her picture would look a lot better in all those government buildings than Mitt's. Of course, there are also a number of models, Playboy Playmates, and porn stars that are republicans -- those portraits would be awesome above a judge.

Sadly, I think that's 90% of her appeal. If she looked like Rosanne Barr, she'd be about as popular as...well, Rosanne Barr.

Biding her time quietly in MILFdom, planning her domination of the world while skinning some furry dead thing or another. If she were to somehow become the republican nominee in 2012 it would be sad for the republican party but very entertaining for myself...I would laugh, maybe for months.

I like Bristol. She will probably never marry her boyfriend. The kid should be left alone and allowed to go about the business of dealing with her life - despite the ambitions of her creepy mother.

If Palin ever crosses the Bering Strait she'll probably find a bunch of hardcore capitalists over at Vladivostok, doing 'bis-ness'. She'll overcome this deep crisis with prayer and eventually prevail in this epic test of faith by accusing them Ivans of godlessness, especially them orthodox. With those long beards of theirs they can only be 'Islamics'. Which means that the enemy is at the gates. Again. Or still.

First off...lol for the Diet Coke & bleach line! :shake:
Secondly, shameless changing of positions...hmmm....sounds a *lot* like John Kerry back in '04...true, he didn't win, but he got closer than Mitt.
    Who?
    Exactly my point....
Seriously? She's NOT hot! She *used* to be semi-attractive when she won a beauty pageant back in 1984....24 years ago! Not only is she a double-bagger**, you'd need a ball gag to silence that awful voice. :nolike:

**The definition of a double-bagger: Someone so ugly that you not only put a bag over their head while making love, but one over yours just in case theirs falls off.

    Kitrax,

Pawlenty is the current governor of Minnesota. linky

I'm rather surprised that you are completely unfamiliar with him. Palin was considered a dark hourse canidate for the VP slot. Pawlenty was one of the front runners. Everyone figured that McCain would pick a hardcore conservative as his VP. That eliminated Romney, and he never got along well with Huckabee (who in my opinion seemed like the logical pick). Pawlenty fit the bill perfectly. No one ever heard of Sarah Palin either. Everyone figured McCain would go with a young, ultra-conservative. Which he did. Must pundits just picked the wrong one.

I know who he is, hence the quote of "I forgot about him." He's *too* forgettable. I guess I failed at sarcasm. :bad:

Speaking of Huckabee, I really wished he would have made the ticket. I agree with a lot of his ideas, and I think McCain would have been a greater force against Obama if he had Huckabee as his VP pick.
