Give this man a cigar! If you watch the video clip, she and Olbermann are laughing during the interview - she is a a comedienne and doing what comediennes do i.e., crack jokes - especially during the part where she says the limbic brain is pressing aginst the frontal lobe causing the brain to malfunction. When you read the text transcript, it sounds like she is serious (although, really, the part about the brain should have even read like the satire it is - no one should actually believe that point), but saracsm doesn't come across well in text.

By contrast, Limbaugh's point is NOT meant to be sarcastic or funny. It's about bashing Obama. The problem is that to people the likes of Rush Limbaugh, this was a Catch 22 for Obama. If he had not given the order to take the pirates out, and the captain had died, Rush would have bashed Obama as being spineless, wimpy, and unable to make the hard decisions. So there was no way Obama was going to escape Rush's criticism - only which criticism he would receive.

Actually aldeth she isn't laughing the entire time she is spewing her hatred.

Listen to the whole thing & you will learn that all republicans are racists & whitepower nuts.

I think that obama made the right decision to allow the navy to handle the situation the way they did, now lets see if he follows up on it with the correct strategy.

Martaug, I was watching that interview when it first aired, and if you fail to recognize the obvious satire involved in what she's saying, your irony meter is broken. Garafolo, like any good comedian, doesn't laugh at her own jokes. Given that you aren't exactly her target audience (and, to add insult to injury, are the butt of her joke), it's no wonder you don't find it funny, but she doesn't mean what she's saying in any literal sense.

Is Garafolo arguing that the protesters were there solely because they couldn't stand having a black man in the White House? More or less. Is Garafolo arguing that conservatives are unreasonable -- or even stupid? Yeah. Is she arguing that conservativism is actually the result of the limbic brain being much larger in their head space and pushing against the frontal lobe -- in other words, a disability? No.

Well Drew, since(just like limbaugh) it is the same hatred she has been spewing for YEARS i don't think she was trying to be funny.
Just listen to any of the transcripts from the majority report which she hosted on air america for over 2 years. In that aspect she was a direct leftist version of limbaugh.

And just as limbaugh has supporters on the right, she is beloved by the left(admittedly the more extreme of both sides here).

Hmmm...when was the last time a member of congress had to issue an apology to Janeane Garofalo for suggesting she wasn't the de-facto leader of the Democratic party? Memory fails...

I don't know, martaug, I heard a lot of laughing. If you honestly believe that Janeane Garafalo believes that conservativism results from an over-sized limbic brain pushing against the frontal lobe, there's a bridge on Gravina Island I'd like to sell you.

Not really. One look at Limbaugh's listenership will tell you that his audience is more than just a few extremists. I mostly agree with you about Garafalo, but with a few key differences. Unlike Limbaugh, who is substantially to the right of the most Republicans, Garafalo really isn't any more to the left than your run-of-the-mill democrat. She is, however, far more partisan, as is most of her fan-base -- which, needless to say, is much smaller than Rush Limbaugh's.

Is she? I thought I was rather left-leaning by the US scheme, but I think she was wayyy out. The whole teabag protests was because Obama is black? Linking lymbic (I don't know if I spelled that right) size to political support? She might have had an ok idea or two somewhere there, but I think the woman is in need of some medication.

I did listen to it - in fact I saw it when it aired live.

Wow. It's political satire people. Garofalo is a comedian. Yes, she is very partizan. Yes, she hates the far right wingers. Yes, she hates the tea bagging protests. But she is certainly NOT a political commentator, the mouth-piece of the democratic party, or meant to be taken seriously. Why do you think that she appears on shows like Countdown with Keith Olbermann and Air America with Rachael Maddow? Because they are about as left-wing as you can get.

I also disagree with comparing her directly to Rush Limbaugh because A) her audience is MUCH smaller than Limbaugh's, and B) I do not think Limbaugh considers himself a comedian. Garofalo does all this stuff tongue-in-cheek. She's partizan, but it is apparant to everyone with a functional frontal lobe, that it's political satire. Rush, on the other hand, is serious in his pronouncements.

I wouldn't know, I haven't seen anything else by her before, and Olbermann does try to be taken seriously at times. In that instance, however, she did not look like a comedian, not one bit. Maybe she is just an expert in deadpan delivery, but as someone who saw her for the first time she seemed to be dead serious. Olberman and Maddow do some comedy at times, but in their case it usually shows that they are kidding or they are just being snarky.

Actually, this is precisely the kind of comedy and delivery she's known for, so I can see how you'd get that impression if you're unfamiliar with her. She's more or less the archtypal gen-x cynical urbanite. If you ever saw the cartoon "Daria" on MTV in the late 90's, it's basically modeled after her. Her stand-up is actually quite funny (I've seen her live, and she killed), but I haven't been much of a fan of hers in recent years. Sanctimony tends to kill comedy, if you ask me.

And Aldeth is right about comparing her to Limbaugh, in any way shape or form. It's like equating The Rolling Stones with some local indie bar band by saying "they both play music, and both have their fans." It takes some serious brain jujistu for that to make any sense.

You know it's funny that people praise obama as such a good speaker when in reality he is just a good reader.

I agree...also, I find his speeches seem a bit contrived

    The Associated Press reports

Of course I question why the article (and headline) didn't read "More then seven in 10 Americans say Fox News Channel has been accurate in its criticism of President Barack Obama.

Could this be an example of liberal media bias? Nah, everyone knows that doesn't exist [IMG]

I'm also curious, as I thought his name was Glenn Beck? Which is this, shoddy reporting or shoddy editing?

Probably because you cannot deduce that from the article. Just because 3 in 10 say that Fox has been too hard on Obama doesn't mean the other 7 thought that Fox's portrayal of him was accurate. I'm sure a fair number of people didn't have an opinion either way, because they don't watch Fox News. Remember that while everyone gets Fox, not everyone gets Fox News. Fox News is not on basic cable (neither is MSNBC), so unless you have a nicer cable package or cable (and I'm unsure whether or not this is true for 7 out of 10 Americans) you don't even get the shows.

It is Beck. I have no idea if this was an error in reporting or editing, nor do I particularly care which it is.

Could be. I never thought of "Fox NEws" as liberal media bias, but it could be. I never watch Fox anyways....

Glenn Back is his liberal alter ego. He uses it for when he is a talking head for the liberal media bias and then changes it back to Glenn Beck when he is a talking head for the conservative media bias.

Also, it is rumored that Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage, Billo O'reily," Pat and Bay Buchanan, Joe Scarborough, Ann Coultar, Rush, Dr. Laura, Fred Barnes, Sean Hannity, George Will, Bill Kristol, Pat Robertson, the Blonde on "The View," that no one listens to, Bill Bennet, James Carville's "worser" half, Matt Drudge, Brit Hume, Steve Doocy, and Brian Kilmeade are all really one person - Michelle Malkin. Others claim that all the above alter egos are really a ploy to cover up the "Militia Media for a New World Order." One person claimed that they were all just out to prove that there really is a "liberal media," and that the "conservative media" did not exist except in the number one rated news channel - absolute proof that the media has a "liberal bias." :)

What, that < 20% in a survey think that MSNBC or CNN are too easy on Obama? People may have an inherent bias themselves. If these 16% are the hardcore conservatives it would make perfect sense - they are more critical of Obama, and they would prefer the major networks to follow suit.

I like how the dems & dem supporters(& just plain rep bashers) on this site try so hard to say that the republicans are a "regional party" when this map clearly shows that the region is coast to coast & country wide.
    http://www.juliansanchez.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/cqhousemap.jpg

Also that it's a "southern party".
Thats funny as the south accounts for ~44% of the republican delegates, so 56% is from areas other than the south.
    Yeah, thats a southern party.

There are lots of Republicans in California. They're completely and totally irrelevant come the presidential elections.
