[IMG] Very sad indeed; he died unconvicted. Disappointing and embarrassing for the legal system:o.

As for the hints I heard, about him overdosing on sleeping pills... I can respect that; if only more paedophiles did this:thumb:. Jackson could've done it 10-20 years ago; it would've saved his legacy!

I don't think he ever conciously did anything to any child. he guy had some kind of mental problems and had never grown up. I doubt very much he had the capacity to knowingly molest anyone

What I find most sad is that he never got to be back in public favor. All we ever heard of him in the latter years were derisive comments (wheter true or not). I guess it would have been nice for him to go out in a (good) popularity peek...

I stand corrected dmc -- I was thinking normal parents.

The bad jokes are already coming in...

Walmart has announced all boys pants are half off in memory of Michael Jackson.

[IMG] Don't, my boyfriend is genuinely upset (childhood hero apparently, in the music sense) and I keep getting texts from friends with all sorts of jokes and I have to hold my tongue :xx:

Don't bag on the man - "little boy" jokes aren't really appropriate today. People should give the man at least one day of reverence, for pete's sake.

We will all remember him in our own way. I doubt he would really care about reverence....

Whether someone would care about reverence or not is hardly relevant when we're talking about someone who has just died, especially so far before their time. Reverence is for the living, those who remember and mourn, not the dead.

I've told and enjoyed as many "What to JCPenney's and Michael Jackson have in common?" jokes over the years as the next guy, but even I can resist pissing on the man's grave for a single day. You're free to do what you want, however - I just think it's in poor taste.

There are some who would say he was living on borrowed time -- personally, the Michael Jackson I remember and enjoyed has been gone a very long time.

The irony of it is that it was an album called 'Invincible' which marked the 'death' of him.

Death Rabbit has an point -- whether or not Michael would care or not about our reverence, it says something about someone who speaks ill of the dead. We all know that he was a deeply flawed human being, but it behooves us to try to be better people ourselves and show some kindness, even if we deeply disagree with some of his behaviours.

Thank you, LKD. I would just add that there are millions of people all over the world who still loved and respected Michael Jackson and his contribution to our culture, despite his well-documented personal demons and eccentricities. Even if you personally loathed Jackson, cracking lewd jokes about him right now is as disrespectful to those who mourn him as it is to the person who died. Which is why speaking ill of the dead is so tacky. You don't have to excuse his behavior of recent years, but you don't need to pile on before the body's even cold, either.

It was a joke. Please get over it... T2 was throwing in some comic-relief to a sad-story. If you guys want to be down all day, have had it, but I for one appreciate T2's humorous attempt to bring us back to reality and not dwell on MJ all day. I am not one who cries at funerals. Not because i am a heartless bast***, but because i prefer not to dwell on sadness, that brings depression. I prefer to enjoy the good things in life, like smiling.

It wasn't just a joke, Blades - it was a degrading joke at the expense of the person who died. If you can't tell the difference between that and an unrelated comic-relief joke meant to lighten the mood, then I don't know what to say. My pointing out that it was in poor taste - and I'm not knocking T2 here - doesn't mean I dwell in sadness or have anything to get over, either. It is what it is.

I prefer to remember him for his music and his impact on pop culture. "Bad" was the first album I ever owned. I'd always hoped he'd make a decent comeback, but it never came. I'll miss him. So I'd appreciate it if people could lay off calling this person I admired a child molester for just a single day, if that's ok with you.

Apparently some of us have different opinions when it comes to the scale of what a joke is. Some of us did not admire him, not one bit. His status as a pop culture icon does not excuse or outweigh his actions toward children in any way, shape or form. Wonderful, you loved him as a kid, so when the true monster appeared later, you just ignore that part of him? That part didn't count? Well, to each his own, i guess... but i will ***NEVER*** have any respect for someone that can have any kind of disgusting thoughts about children, let alone take action on those thoughts... he was revolting in my book. That's why T2's joke lightened the mood for me, because i rather have a 2 second laugh and get on with my day, than dwell about poor little MJ. Think of it in those terms, your a father for christ's sake....

the majority of comedy is in poor taste at someone else's expense.

If you worry about it so much you will never tell a paddy and murphy or a blond joke because odds massively favour the fact that an irish person died that day of a blond woman died that day.

    Blades,

Of course I don't ignore that part. I was disgusted by it. I was disturbed and saddened by Martin Bashir's interview of him which illuminated how far gone he was. As I mentioned earlier, I have a million Michael Jackson jokes in my joke-o-file. That doesn't mean that I still don't appreciate what he once was, and what he meant to me "as a kid." I think everything about him is a tragedy, from his sh*tty childhood, to his descent into madness, to his impropriety with little kids and the money-grubbing sycophants in his inner circle who enabled it. It's tragic all around. I don't think we was evil, I think he was sick. I personally believe that even at the end, he couldn't comprehend why sharing a bed with a little boy was wrong, since in his (admittedly) messed-up head, he was a little boy, too. Don't take that as me excusing his behavior, because I'm not. I believe some of the charges leveled against him, I think some were clearly people trying to play lawsuit lottery. In the coming years, we'll probably know the truth of all of it. But to me he was deeply sick and needed help.

And now he's dead. Evil's punished. You hate the guy, and you're entitled. His kids, his friends, and his fans felt otherwise, and they're entitled. They're also entitled to one day (at least) of mourning without being made to feel like sh*t for feeling regret for this person's death, and the loss of an opportunity for this person to ever redeem himself. Call me sentimental.

I've no interest in arguing with you, Blades. Laugh at and hate on MJ all you want, it makes no difference to me. I said my piece, and stand by it. I'm not passing judgment on you or anyone else, just asking for what I always understood to be a common courtesy. I think it shows a lack of character to speak ill of the dead, despite how justified you may feel in doing so. It may make you feel better, but it makes the people who are saddened by his death feel worse.

No hard feelings. Hope you have a nice weekend.

    @ Shoshino,

I love crude humor. Even got a mod warning here once because of it. I've told a variation of T2's "little boy's pants half off" joke for YEARS. But everyone has their limits, I suppose. For me, death is hard enough on the people around the dying that you don't need to add to it by insulting their memory. It's just a matter of common courtesy to just remain silent, that's all. Especially for someone who's been the butt of countless jokes for as many years as Jackson has. On this one day, I don't think it's too much to ask to just give it a rest. That's all I was saying.

    Have a nice weekend, everyone.

Well, Blades, as Faye mentioned he's never actually been found guilty of anything (not saying that he might not have been though).
