Snook, I'm here in Texas, the home of GWB. Besides, a C? That's a good grade in Texas:

[IMG] Okay, I kinda failed there  I can't open the pdf atm but thought I remembered it well enough, oh well

Pretty sure there was a 'how did' but somebody else may have said it.

It's ok 8!:) In the beginning of the exercise outline, it is listed as possible questions to ask to asks the students, then they were to create a cause and effect graphic to further explain their answers/remarks. These are the suggestions that were listed as possible questions below. A nice answer for those who don't agree with his statements would be " I think he is trying to get across the point of...." They do not have to agree, just notice what the president is trying to get across. The exercise is to help with comprehension.

Why does President Obama want to speak with us today? How will he inspire us?

    How will he challenge us?
    What might he say?
Do you remember any other historic moments when the president spoke to the nation?
    What was the impact?

First of all, I did read the original lesson plan, and I failed to see how are any of the questions on it were inherently political.

He released his ****ing birth certificate to the public, for crying out loud! He has a digital copy up at factcheck.org! He's presented his birth certificate to far more people than he's required to by law, and has it made the birthers go away? He's allowed factcheck.org and several other sites to keep a digital image up for the perusal of any who care to look. The authenticity of his birth certificate has been verified by numerous Hawaiian officials, including the governor and director of public health. What more do you effing want, man? On top of all of this garbage, his mother is an American. Even if he were born in Kenya, he'd still be a natural born citizen who's lived at least 14 years in the United States -- and he'd still be eligible for the office of President. The birthers have no more right to hassle the president with a lawsuit requiring him to personally show them his birth certificate than I have to sue you to show me yours. This is ridiculous.

Really? The language was there? Let's take a look at the language -- for good measure, I'll use a source that hasn't been updated since July 29th, lest you try to accuse me of pulling a bait and switch.

Feel free to show me where end-of-life counseling is mandated, where "death panels" are established, or where the bill encourages the elderly to refuse resuscitation. The only thing this provision does is modifiy section 1861(s)(2) of the Social Security Act, which defines what services Medicare will pay for. If these definitions made treatments mandatory, all seniors would be required to get artificial legs and midwife services, too. Do you really not see how stupid this is?

I'm going to call shenanigans on that. On simple questions like that, you could definitely get away with saying, "He didn't." You would have to explain that, just like you would have to explain why he did, but disagreeing with a question does not guarantee a C in Massachusetts.

Yeah, I'd fail if I said that.

Now I don't know about Snook's 'reasoned arguement', but if we just put "he didn't", it'd be assumed we were trying to dodge the question and we'd get a 0 for that part of the assignment.

And, personally, I think "How will he inspire you" and "How did he inspire you" are about the same. The only difference is the availability of facts.

Sure, but that isn't quite what was being asked. The difference was between "how will he inspire you" and "Is President Obama inspiring you to do anything? Is he challenging you to do anything?". This leaves wide open the opportunity to state in no uncertain terms that "no, he wasn't inspiring me to do a damn thing." If, however, a student were to answer that Obama didn't challenge him to do anything, the student was clearly not paying attention.

NOG, take a look at what I just posted in response to your statement. You said
    I responded with
My point was that they never asked "how did he inspire you?". The question they asked after the speech was a two-parter: "Is President Obama inspiring you to do anything? Is he challenging you to do anything?" My point stands.

I think I see the confusion. When I said:
I was recognizing that they'd never actually asked "How did he inspire you", but rather that it was "How will he inspire you", and that I thought the difference was meaningless, so our reaction to "How will he inspire you" (which was asked) should be the same as "How did he inspire you" (which wasn't).

I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear.
