I discussed all of this in the next paragraph! It's 1.2 million people spread out over the entire country. If you roll back the number of black voters to what Kerry got - thereby eliminating the "Obama effect" - the only state McCain lost that he would of won was North Carolina.

And it's not actually 1.2% - I rounded to 100 million - there were actually nearly 130 million votes cast, and Obama's margin of victory was about 9.5 million votes. Results here. So even if none of those 1.2 million blacks voted for Obama, he would still win by a wide margin.

 

I suppose to those who are ignorant of its history.

The fact is, Texas is a LARGE state, like almost 800 miles across. West Texas is generally thought of as being more southwest, culturally, with border towns like El Paso. However, East Texas is typically thought of as the Deep South by most people who know anything about the histiry of the DS, which, btw, is where I'm located.

Texas is "histoically" a Deep South state, which is usually defined as having had a "cotton" or "plantation" based economy. But the demographics of many places in the nation are changing rapidly. I made this point to you a while back, that the make-up of many "traditional" specific cultures in the US are changing, and while there are still pockets in some areas that remain unaffected, some areas are becoming more cosmopolitian and international (like Houston and Dallas). The culture of the entire DS is shrinking; that should be obvious to anyone who has lived there. Even Florida, as a deep southern state, has changed in recent years and is losing that cultural aspect, along with Texas. The Deep South as a whole is fading.

 

...and it should also be pointed out that Obama drove more voters of all ethnic, generational, and socioeconomic stripes to the polls, so taking away the entire 1.2 million wouldn't even make any sense.

 

Well now that the IOC has declared Rio de Janeiro (as opposed to Chicago) as the host to the 2016 Olympics we can come to only one conclusion.

The IOC selection committee is a racist organization.

 

What was that conclusion, TGS? Because they didn't want to hold the Olympics in Obama's "facist" and "Czarist" state?

I enjoy the Olympics, and I actually don't mind Rio at all as a choice, as they are close to the Eastern time zone. (I think they're only off by one hour.) And given that the Olympics have never been held in South America, they are a solid choice.

I understand that the Olympics are a global event, but the last two Olympics (Sydney and Beijing) were a pain in the butt for anyone living in North America (and I imagine Europe) to watch live, as the time differential between the two places was so extreme. You literally had to stay up until around 2 in the morning to watch the events live.

We have a pretty good run coming up as far as I'm concerned with Olympic viewership. We have Vancouver (very good), London (not bad), I do not recall where the 2014 Winter Olympics are going to be held, and now Rio. (very good).

 

I think Rio is a very solid choice as well. Not only are the logistics nicer for us over here, but the city itself is a very good location. It's sunny, warm, built up, and can claim a wide variety of settings. Anyone wanna place bets on what race this will feature in?

 

I'd rather see the beach volleyball on the clothing optional beaches of Rio.

Not to nitpick, just how can they have the summer games in July in Rio?
