[IMG] Hello all. As you'll soon notice I'm new here and english is NOT my first language.

I've started a new run through the BG series and right now I'm about to burst into Sarevok's party at the Duchal Palace.

So now I find me wondering which NPC's should be in my party in SoA and ToB. My character is a female jester and it's been really fun to play with, her party right now being Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Xan and Coran.

Ok, so... BG2. I plan on keeping Imoen (probably Yoshimo until I get her back), but haven't decided on the rest of the party yet and I want to know if there are any good NPC mods out there that you would recommend. What I'm looking for is to maximize the roleplaying experience, so I want NPC's that have well-made dialogue and which I can take to ToB.
If there are any romance options for my Jester that would be nice, 'cuz I can't see her fancying Anomen hahaha... And, is the Solaufen mod any good?

    Welcome to the boards! :)

I can't comment on any of the mods as I haven't played them, so I'll limit my comments to the Bioware NPCs. However I have heard very good things about both Solaufein and Kelsey, so I guess they're both good alternatives to Anomen.

If you had Jaheira with you all the way through BG it might make sense to keep her for BG2. She makes for a powerful character and is fun to have around. As for the remaining 3, I can see you had a mostly Good party and you need a good warrior character, so Keldorn is an option. Valygar and Mazzy are also pretty good NPCs, so you might pick one of them depending on which one you prefer and what role is missing in your party. This leaves you with one slot, for your romance option. Pick either Solaufein or Kelsey; both are arcane casters, and you will need this a lot later in SoA. In fact Kelsey might be a better choice because you don't get Imoen back for a while, and you get Solaufein even later, so you would end up playing a big chunk of the game without arcane magic.

Alternatively you could take Edwin; there's a romance mod for him too. However Edwin is evil so this may clash with your regular party setup. I don't know if the romance has an option to get him to change alignment.

I haven't completed the game with it but check out the Angelo mod. What I saw was really excellent.

I'm not a big fan of Solaufein myself because he is way overpowered.

Another mod I like quite a bit is Hubelpot. Keto is fine too.

My advice to you is to check character portraits and sound files before actually using them in game. That way you can learn a lot about a mod.

Give Chloe a wide berth though as she is too powerful and tends to comment on everything which is funny at first but ends up being a bloody nuisance since she can't just stand back and keep her mouth shut. Sincerely, life is too short.

There are a few other mods that are pretty bad because they give you overpowered characters with godly items like Chloe but aren't even as polished as Chloe. I can't remember the names of these mods or I would have listed them.

I wouldn't bother about Saerileth as well but not for the same reason. There has been a lot of controversy about the Saerileth romance but what puts me off is more mundane, i.e. the voicing. There is some sort of echo and it really breaks the immersion.

The Kivan mod for BG2 is interesting but I don't agree with the characterization. When I think about Kivan I have memories of a silent, broody ranger, not a talkative elf who is always complaining about his lost love. Xan also exists as a mod but the entire voicing was redone so if you like how he sounded in BG1 you can only be disappointed.

Last but not least, Tiax. I'm a big fan of the little gnome but I haven't really tested this mod.

Check the Mod Reviews for more information.

If I had to pick one that would be Angelo.;)

EDIT: Forgot Kelsey which is a really good mod introducing a Sorcerer who is also an unlikely hero.

I took a look at the mod reviews and Angelo does seem interesting, though I'm not sure about this whole Kara-Tur thing... might be worth the shot.

I had a good aligment party, but the PC is true neutral, so I do plan on mixing things a little in SoA. For RP purpose I thought Khalid and Jaheira would just continue their lives after BG1 since the PC would be all grown up and wouldn't need their tutelage anymore. But Jaheira is still an option.

For a fighter I considered Korgan (just love the son of a *****), but Keldorn might be equaly interesting. Perphaps both? Hmmm

Also, with Angelo or Kelsey I'd have 3 arcane users in my party (including myself and Imoen). I haven't dualed Imoen to mage yet though. Is it possible to leave her as a vanilla thief forever? More important, is it worth it?

I don't use mods (yet) so I cannot tell you much about NPCs related to them but I can say you may want to consider Nalia for an mage in your party if you lean good and find yourself short in that regard. She does decently without Edwin's jewelry & related extra spells, while she may not have many levels as a thief the ability to use bows & crossbows means she can still be helpful even if she has cast her last fireball for the time being.

If you're TN and want to take evil NPCs too that opens up lots of options. Korgan is a great tank, possibly the best straight warrior in the game (though I find that Keldorn is stronger because of his Inquisitor abilities and Carsomyr). If you don't want Jaheira then Viconia is a good option for a divine caster, she's the best cleric in the game.

You don't need to dual Imoen, she'll start BG2 as a dual-class Thief/Mage regardless of how you played her during BG. For some reason I didn't count your own character (I know, silly me) so forgot that you will in fact have access to arcane spells before getting Imoen. As such you're probably alright not taking Angel/Kelsey/Edwin. Your PC can take care of things until you get Imoen, and afterwards she keeps levelling as a straight mage and will quickly get the heavy-duty spells, even though she lags behind in experience (less of a problem if you got to Spellhold early).

Personally I don't like Nalia. She's really not much different from Imoen, so having both at the same time is pointless. She's the worst thief in the game, and she's not such a good spellcaster either. More importantly her arrogance really gets on my nerves :D

I would say a few people are more arrogant that Nalia (whom I view as more of a dedicated mage that can use elven chain and bows than a mage/thief). Though that is a bit of personal preference.

Ok, BG1 finished. Poor Sarevok, didn't even stand a chance. I kinda felt sorry for him. I'm growing fond of Jaheira, guess I'll keep her.

Ok, so, I'll soon begin the mod installs. I got G3's fixpack, tweaks, romantic encounters... banther pack, unfinished business... anything else you would recommend?

I'm downloading both Angelo and Kelsey, let's see if they convince me. I'm also downloading G3's Sarah, a ranger. Never seen any review about her, has anyone tried and have opinions on this mod? Aparently she's romanceble by females (lesbians, yay! :D). Downside is no NPC/NPC banther in ToB.

I'll also download Keto, Hubelpot, and a few others. I'll probably skip them in this game but have them in anyway for future run throughs (now that I remembered how fun this game is, my life is forfeit :coffee:).

Hm, one more thing. Anyone used G3 Wheels of Prophecy? Sounds interesting.

Assassinations is good so you might give it a shot (TN doesn't really qualify but just listen to me on that one).

I don't think you'll regret Kelsey and Angelo, best mods around although Kelsey is not really the heroic type.

Wheels of Prophecy is awesome! It really enhances the quality of the story in ToB, and makes minor to major changes in the very linear and kinda moot plot. A must to have, it is so masterfully coded and even has original but previously unused dialogue sounds, you will be in for many suprises!

You are looking pretty solid with the mod installs.

Both Angelo and Kelsey are well-made mods. Kelsey got on my nerves after a while (I played through the romance), but that was because of his personality in the relationship and not because of problems with the mod. I've also used Sarah before and quite liked her. Yeah, taking her opens up a lesbian relationship, but I wouldn't get your hopes up for erotic content- it really isn't that kinda mod. The main word that comes to mind when I think of her romance is 'sweet'. As I said though, I did like her.

I've got Wheels of Prophecy installed currently, but I didn't get very far into ToB in my last run to see much of it- ToB unfortunately bores me very quickly. I'll wait until I have played the entire mod before venturing an opinion of it.

Nalia's not too bad. Her arrogance comes for her naivete, which I think makes her more redeemable.
Her starting spells are the best of the game's wizards.

Hubelpot is a really funny NPC, you might wanna reserve Imoen's slot to check out those extra NPC's instead. You only need Yoshimo for Brynnlaw.

What a bummer. I instaled Kelsey's TOB thinking it would sufice, but no. That's actually JUST the TOB part, and I have to install Kelsey's SOA too :shame: Anyway, that discovery has made me choose Angelo for now.

So Lilith's (PC) party is now Jaheira, Yoshimo, Korgan, Anomen and Angelo. I'll probably drop Anomen for Sarevok in ToB. Perhaps even drop him early on and finish SoA with a party of 5, with a sixth rotating slot.

Thanks for all the advice. I've got NPC's for lots of run throughs now :D I got Assassinations too, but I'll save it for the Lawful Evil Monk I'm planning on playing next.

    EasyTutu run - Mod NPCs?

So I am going to start an easyTutu run thru. Not planning to take it to BG2. I was wondering what NPC mods are out there. I know fo the following, Finch, Gavin, Indara, Murneth, Jonathan, Muglore & Xavia. Is there any other new NPCs out there that have been modded for the BG1 portion?

There was a mod that looked interesting but as far as I know it hasn't been released yet. Eranon. It's been on hold for years.

I strongly recommend Finch for any good aligned party, she is very likable.

I have used Finch in the past, a very good NPC to add to a party. My favorite Modded NPC for BG1. I have also tried Gavin, I liked him alot. Indara was a very good NPC. I liked her armour. Mur'neth wasn't as much fun as I thought he would be. He is useful, as the party thief, but otherwise, I didn't care for him. Ghanduaran aren't an appealing race. Muglore and Xavia enter the game at a pretty high level, though I guess I could Keeper them to a more moderate level. I always wondered why the lack of neutral Warriors in the game. A CN warrior, especially a Barbarian, could be a good addition to any party. Plus, erratic NPCs make for great dialogue. I have Keepered Branwyn to Fighter to fill this gap in a previous Neutral party.
