    I really don't get why Americans appear to be so fond of prison rape jokes. Last time I looked rape was a crime, even among inmates of a prison.

    Come on Rags, how many times do you get to use jokes with a big guy named "Bubba" in it? That alone is worth it! Plus, a joke's a joke, we don't take them seriously, hence there called "a joke". Lighten up. :)

    Feeding inmates to lions, crucifying or impaling them or just torturing them would also be an incentive to *not* end up in jail. What are you trying to say? The worse prisons are the greater the deterrent effect? Then Uganda, Iraq and Kongo are privy to the secret solution to America's crime problem.

    On a related note, Arizona, broke as it is, tries new solutions to America's prison related problems - and wants to privatise death row. And if that, why not executions, too? Private companies will certainly offer lean, efficient and effective on-demand services! Privatisation has many advantages: Ordinary prisons have been privatised already. That allows to treat prison rape or murder as a insufficient 'quality assurance' on the part of the contractor (unless increasing the deterrent effect of prisons is what the contract aims on). If the contracting state then imposes fines on the contractor, the contractor will out of profit interest crack down hard on prison rape and murder. The market will solve this! And coming to think of it, since there are private prison works, utilising the really, really cheap labour of prison inmates, maybe there are other alternatives for a for-profit enterprise like a prison company to consider more profitable ways to address America's problem of overcrowded prisons in a creative, out of the box thinking way:

    Personally I liked the premise to Escape from New York better. Stephen King's story The Running Man was quite superior to the movie -- the contestants were volunteers, not prisoners.

    Kurt Russel is really underrated as an action star; Escape from New York is a fun movie. But it doesn't have that game show element ... panem et circenses ... :1eye:

    The movie "The Running Man" was bogus. The premise that death is worse than meeting Bubba in prison is absurd!:p

    Who would've guessed watching The Running Man we would be seeing two governors in action (or Predator for that matter).

    Prison movies are a staple in Hollywood just as prison jokes are a stable in comedy clubs across the US.
