    On a sadder note, my grandmother passed away last night... oh well, it's for the best. She was 95 and wasn't herself for the past few years...

    Thanks everybody. It's best this way since she had a lot of health problems and the actual death came rather peacefully, with all her five children present in the hospital room. It's sad for my mother though, since she was really close to my grandmother. She went every week night to visit her in the old folks home.

    But on with happy thoughts now! :)

    Dachshunds (aka the wiener dog) are awesome! They're one of only 2 dogs that I would ever own...

    Dach = Badger, Hund = Dog. :borg:

    My sister and brother-in-law used to have a dachshund just like the one in Kit's picture. Unfortunately he began to snap after people, including her children and grandchildren, so they had to have him put down. :(

    The commonly used term for Dachshund in German is Dackel, or, put old fashioned, Teckel. They're vivid, courageous hunting dogs (originally bred to chase badgers in their tunnels; thus the short legs) with a good hunting instinct.They do have character.

    Hunters have them. As do many old couples as well :shake: There are, in particular considering the short legs, few things looking more ridiculous than a fat Dackel. I like the wiry haired variant better. They're cool, for dogs that is (says the cat lover).

    I've been very surprised listening to german music how much makes sense to me before looking up lyrics.

    Then again technically it's my first language so I should be better at it anyway :hmm:

    My dog thinks dachshund is German for "walking sausage".

    But then she tried to eat the neighbors little yippy dog, thinking it was a rabbit (she's not very bright).
