As for the bridge, it all depends on how you land. If you land right, you can survive a terminal velocity fall without life-threatening injuries. They'll be painful injuries, and more severe than what she had, but you can survive the fall regardless of the height.

Well, unless that was a REALLY HIGH bridge, she certainly wasn't falling at terminal velocity. It takes several seconds of freefall to reach terminal velocity. And the odds of surviving a terminal velocity fall are very long indeed. (To put in into perpective, if you jump from the Empire State Building, it will take you about 7 seconds to hit the ground, and you won't reach terminal velocity at the time of impact.)

Hmmm...ex navy guy *and* sensitive...I'm starting to see a trend here. Not as a female UKer...but as some one who writes on toilet stall walls:

NOG, I know that in a technical sense what you are saying has some truth. Again, I was not talking about someone who actually has a legitimate mental problem. But I firmly believe that there are those who pretend to have such a condition to either get attention or weasel out of the consequences of their actions. Liars, basically. Those are the ones who need to be punished.

We could pass them a polygraph test. :p

-Cop on a speaker : ''Ma'am, before you do anything, we need to validate that you do indeed intend to kill yourself. This technician is not armed and will not try to force you to come down.''

The technician plugs her into the machine.

-Cop on a speaker : ''Now, for the testing questions : Are you a polar bear?''

I'm with LKD on this one.

In the slew of selfish action available to us humans, committing suicide is bad, but committing suicide in such a spectacular way is worse still. Drama queen much?

No disrespect to people with actual mental problems that are seriously considering such an act, but don't act surprised if you meet spite instead of compassion if you pull a stunt like this.

As for the DJ - not exactly a politically correct pun to pull, but depending on your target audience, this might be exactly the right thing to do. See Jackass, for example.
