    For once, I actually don't have a problem with what PETA is doing. It's slightly tasteless, yes, but I gave up on them having any taste a long time ago. The image is both eye-catching and effective, and I don't think it's really out-of-line, either.

    My prediction is that it will never actually become a billboard. PETA will be too afraid of being sued by Tiger and with the "free" publicity they are getting about it they probably don't feel the need to spend the money on the billboard. A very effective campaign in my opinion.

    PETA gets sued all the time so getting sued is no real deterrent... and getting sued by Tiger could do nothing but help them by causing even more people to read the billboard and get their message out. PETA needn't worry about losing, either. Tiger would have no case since he already admitted publicly to sleeping around.

    Probably. Brad Pitt doesn't get paid every time the Enquirer puts his photo on the cover, after all. Unless you are trying to imply that a celebrity endorses your product, I'm fairly certain that you are well within your rights to use a celebrity photo that was taken when the celebrity was in public.

    That's the thing. Do you have to be a celebrity to be the victim of somethig like this(though I have no sympathy for Tiger, he sunk his own ship!). Can they do it to you Drew?

    I heard that Mark Sanford was in the running for Peta's sign as well. The sign is supposed to say, "You Don't Have to Go all the Way to Argentina to Get Laid."

    Hmmm... I don't know - we need dmc on this one! Can you use someone's likeness (or in this case actual image) associated with an organization if that person is not a spokesperson for said organization? I honestly don't know... I can see both sides of this.

    Not in California. There are all kinds of issues that arise with this, but there are tons of lawsuits that deal with a company using a celebrity's likeness without permission -- usually it's selling something, but it doesn't have to be.
