CelticDream, I hope you have a better Cisco instructor than I did. Even after doing the exams & labs I wasn't sure if I had learned anything.
Having worked two years as a server admin, what little networking stuff I learned has rather leaked out of my brain... not good considering my job is about to completely rework the subnets and VLANS.

Let's just put it this way - I'll be lucky if I pass with a D. I've constructed small home wired and wireless networks, have worked as tech support for a small local ISP, yet the way he taught I couldn't tell left from right or up from down. He read the book to us, barely explained the physical labs we had to do, confused the hell out of me in regards to straight, cross-over, etc. cables... for someone with my experience, I looked at the equipment and scratched my head, with a "wtf?" resounding in my brain. He's one of the main instructors which is why I've changed my major to a liberal arts degree in english/communications - it's also something I excel at since I love literature and writing. I know I can pull those classes off without a hitch since I've had a good majority of the professors already, even for the classes I still need to take, because I know what they look for and they make sure you understand the material being taught.

The CCNA and CCNP courses given at colleges are a joke. Cisco pays those colleges a fair sum to replace the existing techno-course with their Cisco material. The exams are also a joke, I was one of the few who actually studied while everyone else looked up the answers. These answers can be found all over the Internet.

I would not call them a joke if you mean those available at the Cisco Networking Academy. Of course it depends alot on the instructors as well, but all the instructors should be qualified. Which basically means that they have to complete a few courses and the certifications with instructor level requirements. We had all 8 courses (CCNA and CCNP) with alot of practical labs when I was studying some years ago and they were quite useful. Consequently I now have a few certifications in my pocket as well.

    [IMG] Packing isn't fun! :(

I've managed to hurt myself walking around the flat trying to gather things up and attempt helpfulness so was even slower than usual.

Most things are all packed away and now we just have to clean the house before heading to Southampton for the night.

    Tomorrow I meet the parents - EEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!:outta:

No, real fun will start when Kitrax' parents find out that he has posted those photos. :p

An acquaintance of mine works in a computer store that also handles maintenance, repairs etc. A PC was brought to them from an office because the LAN card stopped working. So, he opens the case and looks inside - it's a mess - papers, plastic bags, candy wrappers - you name it, all crammed up in the case, blocking pretty much everything.
Somewhat puzzled, he carefully pokes at the "nest", which startles a cute little gray mouse (apparently living inside) and causes it to dart out and run across the store.

After unsuccessfully trying to conceal itself among its plastic brethren, the furry fury was trapped in a box and evicted to the Great Outdoors.

    EDIT:
I can barely type. The desktop is red and screaming at my eyes.
Football frenzy, cup and derby I understand, but this is beyond sanity horizon. Shared computer strikes again.
No wonder operating rooms are mostly green.
*goes off to find any colour that's not red*

I most certainly did *not*. I cooked that meal...which was delicious enchiladas...so it is only fair that the cook doesn't clean. :D

Ain't gonn'a happen...my dad's 71 years old, and knows enough about computers to get him to pogo.com where he plays Solitaire and FreeCell all day long....and my mom knows how to turn a computer on and log in.....but nothing more.

In other news, my parents took the 4 of us (person #4 is a loooooong story...don't ask) out to my favorite restaurant because they had a $25 gift card. Well, the card was worthless, and my dad only tipped 8-9%....because he's cheap like that. Well, after they left, me and person #4 stuck around so I could have a few drinks at the restaurant’s bar. I ended up spending $40 on three drinks. More than half of that was in tips... $10 for the bartender (who I know), and the rest went to the server who my dad screwed over with is lousy tip. She was older, and completely unattractive (2 things that usually keep me from the 20%-25% tip range (I tip extra depending on how hot the waitress is, and how much cleavage she's showing... (yes, I'm *that* shallow))), but she did a great job, and certainly deserved more than what my cheapskate of a dad gave her.

IOON....this is the first time I've ever gotten buzzed off of a LIIT, an AMF, and a Screwdriver. I need to drink more often obviously............so I had 4 shots of JAger once I got home.

IOOON...I think I might have broken M$ Word's spell check on this post. :p I'm also all out of JAger. :(

That was me on Wednesday (Cinco!), hadn't drank in a while so went for it. Started off with an 8oz shot before proceeding to destroy myself.

I do mean the ones available at CNA, they might give you a good preparation for the actual Cisco exams, but having seen dozens of people walking away with good grades >90% without having even opened a book. The certifications they hand out have no value. The best IT people I know don't even have certifications, the worst ones I know do.

ION: I bought a trimmer and got rid of the unkempt beard-style I have been going around with for a few years.

    I may kill Rob.

His mum is staying with us from Sunday to Tuesday. That's not a problem, she needs a break from sorting out his grandads stuff. However, Rob's supposed to be racing tomorrow and he's gone to sort the car out and get it ready which means that I'm looking after Ashley today, working, washing and doing housework. He had the cheek to get annoyed that I asked him to be home early to help with the shopping (stuff for his mum!) and still isn't back!!! GRRRRRRRRRRR

Helped a friend (wife and kid) move to a new flat today, third floor, and my résumé is that I definitely need to work out.
