I'll probably watch the game in Tilburg where I live. If we win we'll hit the streets and the centre and on tuesday I'll be in Amsterdam for sure. Canals here I come!

Just the small formality of winning the game on sunday really.

And there it is again, my non-expertise. I didn't know that. Hell, I didn't know the guy until yesterday's match :p

I'll be in my own backyard watching the game with family and friends with the BBQ on and beer cold :D

No museumplein. Work monday. I live 60 km south of Rotterdam. Game is finished around half past 10 PM if there is no added time and penaltyshootout.

Blast, why not play the final on Saturday so we can sleep Sunday away.

I hope that the professionally unemployed person that lives next to me is out.

It's a shame to see Germany go out. They played the best football in the tournament but the sheer difference in quality of player told. Germany's style of play suited Spain as well. There's simpply no way you can compete with them for the ball so you have to plan for that.

Moving down a few levels here's an own goal in favour of my local team. My mate is the physio and he said the poor chap looked like he was hit with a wrecking ball.

Scheit! Sunday's final is gonna be a lot less epic without Germany as our opponent, if we win it. Too bad! "Schade, Deutschland! Alles ist vorbei!" (A pity, Germany! It's all over!) And I really mean Schade. I loved ze Germans in this tournament. I'd have to add that Spain's victory was deserved, though.

On the brighter side: The first World Cup ever played in Africa is going to bring forth a new World Cup Winner to the list. And for the first time, a European country is winning the cup outside Europe. That's some history!

Now the question is: WWPD? What Would Paul Do?
The octopus has been right many times. Before the EuroCup-final in 2008, though, (Spain - Germany) he was wrong. So if he's wrong on the next final as well, I hope he chooses Spain. :D

Btw: Déise, that must be the most unfortunate player ever!

Agreed. The [IMG] dude is much more appropriate than the :wail: -ing dude.

    Stupid Spaniards. [IMG]

Hmmmm....maybe their team will go back to Spain before the final game and get gored or trampled by a bunch of bulls mindlessly roaming through the city. That'd serve 'em right!

That damn Octopus was right again.

Now that Germany are out, I really need to pick the result of that 3rd place play off properly. Any thoughts? Which team will care most about that 3rd place?

This stinks and it ain't from the bratwurst or the beer! :(

I could have been the epic battle we (the Dutch) were waiting for. Now, hopefully, we can kick España's hiney!

At least the German team should have a great future. IIRC, they are the youngest team at the World Cup. Should be interesting to watch them in '14.

The final will be historic in several ways: Neither Spain nor the Netherlands have won the World Cup before so we'll have a new world champion. For the first time, a European team will win outside of Europe. And, this is the first time that Spain and the Netherlands meet in a World Cup.

    I adore that Octopus.

That aside, too bad about Germany, was hoping they'd win. Never liked Spain in football.

    Rooting for Netherlands.

(From RP perspective, they make a snazzier cup winner. - and I like their play style more :p)

When I see that octopus all I see is dinner.

So I'd rather eat that octopus, with the added advantage of putting an end to his scheming ... I just love pulpo, and this prime example deserves to deliciously prepared with garlic and olive oil .... :yum:

I find this mindset strange. While there are certainly rivalries in American sports, you guys actually get disappointed that your primary rival is not playing in the finals? That the victory is somehow lessened by the prospect of playing Spain instead of Germany? Seeing as how so few people would have predicted the Dutch to go as far as they did*, even making it this far is quite the acoomplishment. And having the opportunity to win the WC for the first time in your nation's history would seem much more important, irrespective of who the opponent happened to be.

*I'm not saying the Dutch team sucked, and no one could have possibly predicted this. All I'm saying is that they were not considered one of the favorites going into the tournament. Pretty much everyone expected either Spain or Brazil to be the winner.

    I can understand your confusion.

For us Dutch, playing against Germany is like an epic battle with our nemesis. The rivalry with Germany is a historic one and thus, we're disappointed we don't get the chance to compete against them.

With Spain, we don't have this, although The Netherlands and Spain

It's hard to explain to people who don't have this. Maybe you can compare it with big icehockey competitions. Canada v.s. USA has a similair load if I'm not mistaken.

Hehe. Well, wining the championship is going to be huge, but winning it from Germany would have just been a tad bigger. I think it's just a bit grandeur if that's the right word: people feel we can take the championship for the first time, so they want it in the most beautiful way imaginable. There will be a big party throughout the entire country should we win, but the Dutch won't have the feeling of satisfaction of kicking Germany's ass.

But seeing how The Netherlands played the last match and how Spain played, I'm getting a bit scared :mommy:
