If only it were just system gastronomy. But you find this kind of system systemization for the sake of systemization in most large corporations: Policy decisions that must be obeyed and Procedures that must be followed, so employees can avoid thinking and act like automatons and eventually (so the managers hope) be replaced by automatons (or at least by unskilled, cheap labour).

If you want a cheeseburger before 10:30 AM, you will have to make it yourself, buy it from a less inflexible supplier, or get McD's top management to change company policies. The last option involves getting in touch with company execs who, as far as I can tell, is a species that doesn't live on the same planet as the rest of us. :p

Can we avoid taking potshots at a member who isn't even here and commenting?

I know it's clever and all of that and you guys like revelling in it in a self-congratulatory way, but, seriously, if mordea wants to comment, he will -- no need to start anticipating comments and being snarky about it without him being here. Sort of spoils the fun.

    ^ Love that movie.

@Ragusa, you should come live here. Cheeseburgers are served 24/7. But breakfast is only until 10:30AM.

    On with the topic...

It really amazes me how some people can so easily be ticked off by such "small things". The US have their nugget-lady, Stella-Awardees and who knows what else. While I'm not proud of what had happened here, you should be thankful that you just get assaults and law suits. Here, back in the 90's when the karaoke was just starting to sprout, we've been reading or hearing in the news about shooting incidents because of Sinatra's "My Way". These guys who go to karaoke bars simply just wanted to sing that song too much that they couldn't wait for their turn or is just too sick of hearing that song that guns had to be fired and people sent to the hospital or the morgue. It happened quite a number of times that "My Way" became a popular joke in reference to these incidents.

What a crazy but wonderful world we live in, right?

Well, obviously people just wanted it 'their way'. :D
Ok, it had to be done. But more seriously, I think that may actually be at the root of this problem. Modern culture has taught people to think only of themselves in most instances. And it makes me sick sometimes.

I don't think that's a modern phenomenon. I think human society has always been that way. I'd also guess that such thinking applies to almost anyone. Even though many think of others in addition to themselves, they almost certaintly have a heirarchy, in which they are their loved ones are on top. I certainly place the needs and wants of myself, my wife, and my child ahead of everyone elses. I'm sure you do the same for you and yours.

Agree with Aldeth. Even some animals shows those same qualities.

It is just sad to see that people can sometimes sink so low. And it shudders me to think what if it happens to me... I mean both ways, sinking that low or becoming the victim of the assault. My previous employer had shared this to me. He was once driving around, not over speeding and not under speeding nor did he violate any traffic rules. Suddenly another driver came alongside him and gave him the finger and was obviously furious. And my boss have absolutely no idea how he had slighted that other guy. Now imagine if that other guy had a gun. I'm not saying including the gun here as exaggeration but I sure you people have read or heard in your respective regions about the use of guns because of some bad traffic incidents.

Could we consider XIXth century philosophy modern? Maybe. Could we consider that of Ancient Greece the same? I do not think so... Altruism as a moral virtue is a concept connected mostly to the post - Christian culture, Hindu society being an exception.

I believe the woman had/has a problem with self control, not selfishness. Of course, egoism taken to such extremes can become the cause of a hysteric fit. Extreme altruism has the same potential; ergo, 'thinking of herself' could or could not be the case... just as anything else, in fact. Ross' fundamental attribution error comes to mind.

Out of sheer curiosity... may I ask why does selfishness sicken you so?

Not surprisingly, I agree as well. Still, I believe we are animals - if more gifted. No, this is not going to change into a rant on animal rights: I am an anthropocentric. ;)

As for the 'victim' part... carry a weapon as well. It is that simple.

Well, it is your animal rights if you want to consider yourself as an animal. :D

Uhmmm, and I don't think carrying a weapon is as simple as you implies it. For one, using it on other people (whether just displaying or actually inflicting wounds with it) is not necessarily a normal thing to do... well unless you're going back to being an animal where biting and clawing is a natural.

Haha! Touche. Still, humans, as a species capable of abstract thinking, were able to invent laws and introduce them. Our less gifted 'cousins' do not have such possibilities.

I believe I need to clarify on something. I was not encouraging attacking - what I had meant was defending yourself. Sometimes bare hands are not enough. Defending yourself by any means necessary is perfectly normal.

I can agree that defending ourselves is normal but deliberately bringing a deadly weapon for that purpose in our everyday normal life. That's not something simple at all. I could agree with the idea of bringing a gun to a backpacking trip where getting attacked by some wild animals is a possibility. But we live in the city and we really don't expect to be assaulted by a lady missing her chicken nuggets or an angry driver or karaoke singers gone bad. Whether we liked it or not, we still do live with "civilize" people. We are still bounded by our respective country's laws and regulations... not to mention whatever religious beliefs or principles we have. I personally know some folks who carry guns on them or in their car, we lived in the same city and I honestly can't understand their need for it (to simplify things, let's exclude folks who are into guns as a sport or hobby). I'm not saying that I will never pull the trigger or plunge a knife into someone when my life or the life of somebody I care depends on it. But I know it's not going to be simple. And that's just about the possibility of putting that weapon into use, we still haven't touched the "What happens next after I pulled the trigger?"

I was in a mcdonalds once ordering some coffee, that's the only thing I ever order there, and the guy in front of me was yelling at the clerk because he had a "special diet" and could not eat salt... I'm sure all of you are intelligent enough to figure out why that guy is destined to die prematurely.

    @nior

What one does or does not expect is a question of experiences. The fact that people in general are civilized does not mean that individuals will not wish to harm you. Of course, it is a matter of your personal world views whether you prefer giving your life to taking one. I, for one, consider survival instinct perfectly normal - which is the likely cause of our differences.

The mighty chicken berserker warrior was not able to do serious damage through the window, of course, so pulling a knife or a gun at her would be uncalled for. Still... a solid blow to the head would do her some good, I believe. If only the other lady had it in her to retaliate...

^ I guess they should just pour hot cooking oil on chicken nuggets lady. On second thought, maybe not, the big M might be known to be sued for hot oil too... not just hot coffee.

I left because you guys are all a bunch of *******s and pawns of the New World Order.

Nahh, just kidding. I had four weeks of clinical placements + 7 exams + a group assignment, so I thought it would be a good idea to abstain from internet forums for several weeks.

By the way, this story actually reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM7c8XJGnYI
