I suspect drugs. I mean, the guy they mistook for the Devil lived with them!

Since when does a naked African guy feeding a baby look like the devil?

As usual, there's probably something (or a bunch of somethings) we're not privy to here.

Looking at their origin, they were probably very superstitious to begin with. Stupidity doesn't apply since they experience the world in a very different and primitive way.

Always. I mean, have you seen the medieval depictions of the Devil? Naked - checked. Dark skin colour - checked.
    probably well-endowed?
    - checked. I do not know about the infant, though. A modern addition, perhaps. :D

Hmmm ... most studies I've seen show no difference in race in that regard Rune (height is actually a better, but not perfect, indicator). But then those studies were probably funded by white men.

:D Read about that too, the stereotype had been proven false a number of times, but it's still funny. Now... let us leave Priapus in peace, shall we? ;)

The kid must have been another Rosemary's child, I have just realized that.

I guess I was assuming the Christian devil, with horns and hooves and all that, which probably isn't right for Africans, admittedly (though I don't really know).

Am I somehow missing how this is considered a reasonable (if ridiculously superstitious) conclusion to make? The guy roomed with them! I assume they saw him on a daily basis, maybe ate meals with him, and, if he was walking around naked this time, probably saw him walking around naked previously. How exactly do you accidentally mistake the guy you've been rooming with for some time (I'm also assuming he didn't just move in or something), for the Devil? The only explanation I can see is hallucination/delusion, probably induced by drugs, since multiple people experienced this at the same time.

It is in no way reasonable. I do not know about those who replied, but I have been joking all the way. Seriously, no one is expecting every Christian to experience a panic attack each and every time he/she sees a black person. Really! Not to mention that no one is expecting them to use medieval iconography as a guide to life. :shake:

Strange ... there are numerous updates to this story now.

An infant died due to the jump
The woman who identified the man as the devil was his wife
Everyone in the apartment was watching TV, not sleeping (depending on what source you read)
There were no indications of hallucinogenic drugs found (or 'occult rituals,' for that matter) in the apartment
    Authorities are still investigating!

In other words, we have no idea what happened. :heh:

Quite normal in both marriage and divorce.
