Eight tries, pretty much insta death every time. My party:

    PC - F/I 3/3
    Ajantis 4
    Kivan 4
    Immy 4
    Finch 5

I have gone to three different spots on the map and they pop up at each. One of them casts some area effect spell that rains down pretty much instant death before I can do anything. If any survivors than they die with an arrow of fire. Pretty much, 2 seconds, party is dead before I do anything. Ideas?

I just started a tutu game with SCS a few days ago!

I can tell you the strategy I used. The party I had when fighting Lamalha was:
Shar-teel 4 (Dual wielding +1Longsword/Bastard sword, wearing ankheg plate)
Viccy 4 (+2Warhammer: Ashideena, shield, splint mail)
    Tiax 4/4 (+1 Quarterstaff, +2 studded leather)
    Immy 2/4 (Thief/Mage, Bow+Arrows of Fire)
    PC - Sorcerer 4
    Xzar 4

What I did was backstab with Tiax and his quarterstaff (chugged a pot of invisibility) while Immy and Xzar cast sleep and Viccy cast hold person. After Tiax backstabbed, he also cast hold person. We focus fired anyone who escaped the CC with missiles and Shar-teel's swords, while Xzar and Immy fired another round of sleep between arrows/bullets. Viccy and Tiax proceeded to fire off commands. Tiax also had his ghast out to stun things.

Do you have any hold person, command or sleeps memorized? If so, I recommend using them all. Use any magic arrows you have on Immy. If all else fails, run away, prepare and come back.
I'm sure this is old info to you, but if you have any time before the battle cast bless, protection from evil, stoneskin, etc. Focus people casting spells first: cast magic missiles or shoot them with ranged weapons. Getting that interrupt off is integral, which is why the stuns are important. If you can stun or sleep two or three, you can most likely interrupt the other(s) before they get off too many, if any, spells.

You have an open slot, I would fill it with the pants-wetting, chicken fearing, not-so-brave Sir Robin and run, run away....:D

    Okay, just kidding.

What area effect spell are they casting? Fire-based? If so, load up with resist fire spells pre-battle. Also, try buying your own area effect potions to retailiate, as that should take down any mage opposition. OR.... make everyone but your highest HP character invisible and give the non-invisible character a potion of speed. Let your speedy character trigger the fight, possibly taking some damage from the area effect spell and run PAST YOUR INVISIBLE PARTY. Once they follow, spring a trap of your own.

I have used this tactic a few times in diffent parts of the series, always works like a charm, as long as your opponents can't somwhow detect your invizy characters.

I haven't had time to buff. I come out to the new map and within seconds the group starts talking to me. If I buff, I then can't get anything offensive off because I am still casting buffs.

I am not sure of the type of area effect spell. It isn't fire. It is some kind of clouds raining down.

Kivan is able to get off a clean shot, and usually my PC or Finch can get off a sleep/hold, but the other dies with the rest in the middle of casting.

Maybe I will try going to different maps and see if I get a bit more time to buff before they appear.

Open the game manual and look for disabling spells that have very low casting times.

I've got a game in progress with Tutu +SCS so I went looking for Lamantha and friends. But sorry they weren't there, I guess SCS moves stuff around so they turn up where not expected.

Any fight that takes place just when you arrive on the map is annoying (the one when returning to Ulgoth's Beard springs to mind). My prefered strategy for this is to try to get invisible or sancturied to get away asap and regroup. And you will certainly do better if you come back later with better AC & HP. Or don't go there at all! I also use Charm quite a lot at this level, but I doubt you will have time to cast it.

In my game I have just reached the Bandit Camp and SCS makes that area really nasty, so good luck.

Charming one of the thieves is crucial. I don't remember the names, but there are two thieves in their party, one goes invisible, so charm the other one. At the same time, disrupt the two cleric's spell casting with missile attacks or better yet, magic missile for it never misses, or else their Unholy Blights can kill your party pretty easily.

When the thief is charmed, retreat your party out of the enemy sight and let the thief attack her former comrade clerics. Clerics will try to defend themselves, so keep disrupting them:focus all of your attacks on one to kill, but remember to quickly disrupt the other when she's casting something via Kivan's arrows or magic missile (to be sure).

Alternatively, I won this tough fight with the help of Spell Revision's Grease spell:if forces a save vs breath each round and failure is uncounciousness, so I casted one under two clerics who spawned close to each other, it pretty much put both clerics out of the fight most of the time:and when they were down everybody launched their ranged attacks for easy kill. The ranged attacker thief hurt Khalid pretty badly with fire arrows, but I sent my melee character to her and she had to draw her shortsword, which did her little good.

Unholy blight! After reading the initial post, I just couldn't come up with the name of the spell. What is the casting time on Unholy Blight? (I'm at work, so I don't have access to the manual)

Unholy Blight is an arse kicker. I have never used it before. Still haven't beaten the group. Luckily I jumped to another map and got jumped by another crew, but with some lucky and quick magic missels was able to take care of them.

Unholy Blight has a casting time of 3, like a fireball, and nearly just as deadly for good aligned targets. I despise the spell too, kills low HP party members on a single failed save. It is a necromancy spell, so when you see an enemy cleric casting a necromancy spell, disrupt him/her instantly! Or, if the cleric is casting an enchantment spell, it is most likely a Hold Person spell, and has a longer casting time and easier to disrupt. If you fail to disrupt a Hold Person, look at the target NPC it is casted at (via combat dialogue) and immediately seperate hm/her from the battle, and away from all other party members. Thus, the hold spell will not be able to affect more than one person (they need to be very close to initial target) and if you managed to pull the initital victim out of the fray, he/she won't be pounded to death if he/she is held.
