    The Shield of Balduran is sold by the special merchant you get when buying the gold edition (although I'm sure there's a mod out there that adds them in). She is behind Ribald up the stairs in the Adventurer's Mart. The other special merchant is in the Copper Coronet near the eastern entrance (the one you would normally go in upon entering the area).

    Do the Mind Flayers see through Improved Invisilbity. Never tried it, but can't you go invisible with II and backstab away? Usaully, I just use summons to distract them as my hasted Missle Weapon loaded party fires death from beyond. Or I just use CC if I remember to have it prepped prior.

    I doubt they do in vanilla game
    since I installed scsii lately and improved mind flyers component said;

    "There are a variety of options in this component. You can choose whether to let mind flayers see invisible opponents (I'm inclined to think that their great intelligence and wide range of psionic powers means that invisibility is no barrier to them; not everyone agrees, though). "

    frankly i only installed smarter general AI and calls for help, improved stuff scares me when I read description especially when most annoying creatures like vampires are improved ;/
