I just purchased and slowly downloading the Witcher Enhanced UnCut edition. I have yet to dig into all of the reviews on the game, but from what I could tell it is far better than some of the other games being released in 2006 time frame. I hope the game is as good as I have heard.

The question I have are the grapics really dated now or is it close to the graphics of DAO?

Frankly, I think it looks better than DA:O, despite it's age.

Also, you should've bought the boxed version, it comes with many nice goodies.

I bought the digital version because it was $5 vs. $20 for the boxed game. Also, I can easily use my copy on any machine after the 6+ hour download.

Thanks for the info on how the game looks; I was kinda turned off on buying this game initially when it came out because it was made on the NWN 1 Auroa engine, which seemed dated by 2006/2007.

I bought the same version from Steam during their Halloween sale (or maybe it was the Thanksgiving sale, and I think it was $5 as well). "Goodies" that come with boxed versions of games don't interest me at all, so I'm not missing out on anything worthwhile going digital. I haven't downloaded the game yet (got a couple of otehr that I want to play first), but I'm looking forward to it.

And thanks for the mod link, Topken; one of the good things about always being 3-4 years behind on games is that, when I buy a new computer like I did in June, I won't have to worry about performance issues for a couple of years at least.

Munchkin Blender, the Poles practically rewrote the engine so it bares little resemblance to the original and the game looks nothing like NWN. Miles, miles better.

Thanks for the link. I've been meaning to go through the original and The Witcher 2 and some mods would be nice to spice things up a little.

Wasn't DA:O's engine also based off of the Aurora engine?

Anyway, even if you wouldn't agree with me that it looks better than DA:O, at least Projekt Red has shown that they - quite unlike BioWare - know how to make some proper animations. DA:O was quite horrible in the animations department.

That is good to hear. As for DAO, keep in mind that I have only played it on the PS3 hooked up to my 46" LED TV. As for the Witcher, I will be playing it on my new Asus G74 laptop I bought a few months ago. Hopefully tonight I will get a chance to play it; if not, by the weekend. That is if I don't get engulfed by Drake Fortune for the PS3.

I took a look at what the texture mod does; it does make some improvements, but YOU really have to be paying attention to the small details, which I normally don't do. So, the standard vanilla game should work just fine for my 34 year old eyes.

And the gameplay will let you look beyond the graphics.

Pick up the books while you are at it.

The game The Witcher is based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski. I assume that's what Merlanni is referring to.
