[IMG] I don't think you ever stop learning in this game.....

    1. I want the ring of regen from the guy in the Adventure Mart. Should my theif focus on Pickpocket at level up or Hide in Shadows? Yoshimo is best thief right? Best special skills to focus on?

    2. Party Make up? Right now its MC, Minsc, Jaheeria(SP?) Nahila, and the Paladin guy that you find with Nahila ( I am sorry about names its real late) and Yoshimo. I am a Fighter/Mage. I also have Aeria at my disposal. What is the best party in your opinion?

    3. At Nightime in the Circus you come across some shadow thieves and a guy with a name that starts with H. Whom is it better to help?

    4. Higher Charisma must only affect items bought not sold.

    5. I thought by using the special buff for Fighter/Mage. The name is like Holy something or other, if you buff this before level up you can earn more HP per level? It seems to work but then I go back down after I rest.

Probably have more but Id like to keep it at 5 so you don't start resenting me

    1) Yoshimo should be able to pick pockets (if you buy a potion). No need to waste more points there

    2) It's a good party. Nahlia is an underated mage and Minsc can really dish out some damage. With your F/M it should work like a charm. Paladin guy - I guess you mean Anomen (or have you met Keldorn) is great! His personality is... well not pleasant, but he is one of the most powerful guys around. And he can get better... Keldorn (the other "Paladin guy") is so powerful that you will be amazed (if you use him right...)

    3) Your party will work fine against all encounters. It's just a questiion of finding out what works for you. Sure "random" encounters in the night might be aproblem but take a stroll down the docks and you will find a nice solution... eventually...

    4) Charisma is usually a"dump stat" since you will find so much treasure & great items, that you shouldn't spent a lot of gold on a measly +1 sword. That being said - there is a great axe (for starters) at the Copper Coronet (if you complete the quest).

    5) All spells have limited duration. If it is short one you will lose the buff when you rest. For a F/M stoneskin, mirror image and fireshield (red or blue) is great.

BTW - don't be afraid to try different things. There is almost no way to "screw up" the game and you will be able to complete the game with any party. Just watch out for what your characters weakness are. Nalia is a mage (with few hitpoints) and is vulnerable to melee (or backstabbing). Minsc berserk ability looks great but it really isn't... Jahheira is a powerhouse waiting to happen... When she gets Insect swarm (or plague or whatever) she will singlehandely destroy all mages in the realm.

You can raise your pickpocket with Potions of Mastery Thievery and both Jan/Haer Dalis will have good pickpocket scores later on, so it's not a skill you want to focus on unless you have nothing else left to raise. For Yoshimo, focus on Disarm Traps, Pick Locks and Set Traps. You currently have two mages, one of them should be able to cast invisibility on your thief for scouting. Just make sure your thief is using the Cloak of Non-detection or spell like True Sight will dispel the invisibility.

One that has a good combination of casters and warriors. Your party looks OK atm.

For now, just observe them. As you progress you'll learn more about them. Neither are particularly "good", but one has a somewhat more neutral (or indifferent) bent while the other is more murderous, even evil.

Not sure about this one. I know reputation and alignment also affects sell item prices though.

It's Draw Upon Holy Might, and it's a special buff you get for being a Bhaalspawn. It's actually a cleric spell. It does give you extra HP (depending on your level and constitution) and lasts a while, but spells do not grant permanent stat increases (not counting Find Familiar). For that there's special items/devices or important game cut scenes.

    Edit: Too slow.

...and I completly missed that you had Aerie. She is a M/C - which pretty much means she is gonna be THE MOST POWERFUL NPC EVER eventually... You have a great balance to your team - don't worry about it. Minsc & Aerie together are great fun... Don'nt miss out on some quest just for wanna change your party... If your playing a man, you can romance three of the women (if your character is a girl then you are stuck with one choice..) If you want the romance to continue then you have to pick "the right choice" in dialogs (not particulary hard) and never, ever throw your love-interest out of the party (it will kill the romance). So basicly you can kick out Minsc (temporary) and add another member (with a quest) and then pick up Minsc again. More XP - no loss!

I do have Aeria who should I kick out to bring her in? Jaheeria? I think I need Yoshima and he is pretty cool. Jaheeria is my healer though. Do squad mates level with you party or do I need to it individually? Again, how should I change my party to accommodate Aeria?

In regards to the weapons I just think Katana and Scmitar look cool. I already have 2 in Flail and Long Sword. If I was smart I would probably go with a ranged weapon like Short Bow.

Edit: What about Korgan? He is supposed to be great but my party is mostly Chaotic Good. Would it be a problem to have him along for the ride instead of Anoman the Paladin guy?

If it were me I'd probably drop Yoshimo. Nalia can handle most of the thiefly duties. That said, I never really liked Yoshimo, but I can't really say why right now.

On the other hand, you already have a primary mage (Nalia), a secondary mage (your PC), a primary healer (Anomen), and a secondary healer (Jaheira). Personally, I'm not sure that you need Aerie, as with her you will be getting another level deficient mage and another level deficient healer in a single package. Aerie's main power is her flexibility. She can cast nearly any spell. But it seems that you are already more than covered in that department. Consider carefully whether you want to drop a more specialized character over another character who is pursuing 2 professions at the same time.

Jaheira may not have mage spells, but as a druid she does gain a handful of useful spells that you would not get using Arie (cleric and druid spells are similar, but there are a few key distinctions). The druid's summon swarm type spells, for example, are very useful for preventing enemy mages from casting at you. Jaheira is also a formidable frontline fighter, which Arie isn't. So I guess it comes down to would you rather have more front line power in a healer, or a backline, fragile healer with some nice nukes at her disposal.

I would not suggesting dropping your more focused healer/mages, Anomen and Nalia, as these characters will level up much more quickly in their primary class, and so will be much more powerful in their roles.

Having both good and evil party members can indeed be problematic. Especially if you plan to do lots of good deeds and gain a high reputation for doing so... evil party members will eventually leave, and will likely pick a fight with one of your goody two shoes party members at some point. If you really know what you're doing you can hold such a party together, but it is probably not a good idea for your first time playing the game.

Mixing good and evil is not really a problem (except for reputation). Without spoiling to much I will say that there will come a time when you will be able to lose reputation without killing someone (I think it is -2 at every time)... That being said, there are some characters that won't go well together.

Regarding your team I would agree that you have a lot of casters. It would make sense to drop either Aerie or Nalia. Especially if you plan to include Imoen in your group. While Jaheira can be used as a healer, she is more effective with the offensive spells that is available to druids. Then again - clerics and wizards are very powerful so you could easily keep them both.

As a fighter Korgan is great. I usually don't include him unless I play an all evil party (just roleplaying reasons). But with Minsc, Anomen and your F/M you don't really need more fighters. Jaheira works well as frontliner with Iron Skins and some good equipment. If you really want another frontliner then I would suggest Keldorn, since he has some very useful abilities.

If I recall correctly you should be able to pickpocket Ribald (to get his ring) if Yoshimo drinks TWO potions of masterthievery. I think you can buy more at the docks. Stealing from shops is something I never do since you get so much gold and items, that you don't need to bother.

Thanks that really helped me out. I guess I will try and keep the party as is for now and then switch Yoshimo out for Imoen when I get her back. That takes care of my thief skills. When I need someone for a quest I will switch out Minsc.

I am going to go and look for another master thief potion at the docks. I heard there is a way to sale something to a merchant, steal it back, sell it again, steal it back, sale it again. I like to have the best gear.

I am a crazy anal gamer and this game might be the death of me.

Edit: Wouldn't it be better in the long run to have Aeria insted of Nahila since Imoen does basically the same thing? I read that this could cause a major problem with Jaheeria though. I was just thinking the extra spells could come in handy vs thief skills. That means I could do a little healing, Jaheeria could do a little, Anomen could do a little and Aeria could do alot.

Best thief skills to boost for Yoshimo IMO are in this order

    1. Open Locks because missing treasure and XP SUCKS.

    2. Set traps. Can be done instead of open locks for number if you want better combat skills (Yoshimo is already pretty good at locks so with a potion of mastery thievery or two for the harder locks you could be fine just change open locks to number two and promote set traps to number 1). Traps give you great tactical options that can win encounters so you definitely want these at 100% as soon as possible (I only have open locks at number one since losing items and XP sucks as I said before). They can make hard fights really easy when you ambush (or lead enemies into ambushes) your foes.

The rest are dependent on your party and style for me this is what I do.

    3. Detect illusion. Very useful and underrated. It is very close range and is made obsolete if you have a lot of uses of truesight in your party (unless you do something like a tactics mod) but if you want to eliminate a lich's simulcrum or mislead spell (or heck mirror image) this can do it for free wich is awesome.

    4. Stealth skills. Most would probably rate these higher then detect illusion but I don't due to my personal style. For me Yoshimo already has great stealth stats and so has little trouble overall in hiding. In addition there are many items that improve stealth that are easy to get early in the game and so for me I just don't feel his stealth skill needs the help. That said stealth is great so make sure whether you put points into it or not that you try to use the skill whenever you can as scouting and well placed back stabs can win fights.

Last is pick pockets which I agree with most everybody is the last skill you improve and it is best to use potions to succeed.

As a general combat strategy what I like to do is have yoshimo go ahead of the party in stealth mode and find the enemy. Once I find the enemy I prioritize my target (mages that are not protected with spells like stone skin are my number one target followed by other spellcasters and thieves in general). If this is a big nasty fight I take yoshimo back to the party and I lay down traps in front of the party and get my casters ready and long range weapons on my warriors. I then stealth yoshi again and have him back stab my priority target. Many times if it is a mage it is instant death if I hit. I then have yoshi run away towards my party. When he gets back to the party I have him switch to bows and put him in the back to wait for the enemy to close. The enemy will be hit with all my traps while being pummeled by long range fire and spells. It is an instant death trap for most encounters. You can't do it every time but it is just one example of the tactics that yoshi allows.

The only problem with Jaheira and Aerie is that both women finds you attractive (if you are a man) and that you eventually has to choose between them. It doesn't affect the game which one you choose (it will just mean that the "loser" stops talking to you).

I would personally pick Aerie over Nalia (but then I almost always romance her and doesn't like Nalia...), just because she offers more options. That being said, Nalia will level up quicker and have very powerful spells. Yes, she and Imoen are very much alike but that doesn't mean you can have them both. Magic is very powerful.

Oh and one thing about equipment. While I can understand that one would like to have the best equipment, shopping (or stealing) is not the way to go. You will find most of the powerful things through the game (usually by killing someone) so shopping is more for covering your basic needs. Ribald will eventually get some new items. There is one item in particular that is worth investing in (since it "helps" greatly in an otherwise tough fight) but that shouldn't be your first focus.
