OK, we all know about Weiner, but here's a local one for you.

OK, now one's views on prostitution may deviate from society at large, but the fact is that it is considered a crime in most North American jurisdictions. Politicians need to avoid criminal behaviour for reasons of optics if nothing else. He has already resigned from the caucus of his party, and is now sitting as an Independent Member of the Legislative Assemble (MLA). Many people, myself included, believe he should do the honorable thing and resign his seat altogether, opening things up for a by-election. Others think he should stay so as to save taxpayer money being used on a by-election.

Thoughts?

 

I don't buy the "oh I'm such a doo-doo bird but I'm sorry" routine from these guys when they get caught. The likelihood is that he's been doing this right along without a lick of conscience interfereing. (Most people aren't one-shotters at their crimes of choice, and politicians in particular seem to have a greater tendency to do this stuff. Hell, Weiner apparently did the same thing again, after getting caught and exposed and publicly humiliated the first time. That's not an accident or a lapse in judgement - it's who he is.) Sorry routines are a smokescreen.

So in this guy's case, he's not a good guy who made a bad choice. He's a john who buys prostitutes, and the treatment of him should reflect that. His own actions in response are kind of irrelevant. Think about it - if you had a friend who was exposed as a rapist or a pedophile or something, you wouldn't think of him as your rapist/pedophile friend and be interested in him saying he's sorry. He'd just cease to be your friend and become "that rapist/pedophile douche." Should be the same for elected officials.

The 'virtues' as you say of prostitution are debatable, but that doesn't change the fact that this guy employs them. At best, he's a not-terribly-serious criminal offender, but that still makes him a criminal offender.

 

I am not ondoning unlawful actions, but if a guy (or girl!) wants to send dirty pics over the net or hire a hooker...I say go for it, as long as you are breaking a law. BUT people in positions of power often represent the country/state/province, etc.... and many individuals that are being represented by such a character don't want to be associated with that stuff. So the moral of the story is... if you take the post, you gotta play by the rules.

(Yeah, like I have any right to take shots at people for typos. )

 

If there ever will be a politician who fesses up but says he's not sorry, wouldn't that be the honest man who you can trust?

 

Weiner is at it again. I've said a few times that I wonder what is going through old Huma's head -- how can she stay with him?

I thought the same thing about Hillary. I came to a nasty conclusion about her, and it's so mean I'm gonna sleep on it before sharing it.

 

Weiner sure is in a pickle.
