I was wandering through the local mall and had a look in EB Games and was astonished to see a brand new copy of Icewind Dale II sitting on the shelf alongside all the latest releases. I wonder what random circumstance lead to this game time travelling from 2002 to 2014. I also wonder if anyone will buy it.

If this was a month ago, or even the first week of January I wouldn't have been as surprised. Around Christmas time, especially in the last week, the stores will put out all the old unsold inventory for last minute shoppers.

Now is often when the stores are doing inventory, so if their stock is low and they are having a big sale, it's possible they are doing the same thing in trying to get rid of all the old stock.
It's equally possible that somebody just found it misfiled somewhere in the back room and stuck it out, especially if it's in the "bargain bin".

I can't believe that it was old stock. The mall it's in didn't even exist in 2002. I suppose I should just ask them.

I didn't know that the store in question didn't exist. If I'd walked into GameStop at Woodfield, formerly Electronic Boutique, I'd have assumed it was something lost in the back room since that store has been in the same location just outside Sears on the second floor for at least 25 years.

I do recall back in 1994 finding a bunch of Sierra On-line games for my Apple IIGS at Software, ETC at Randhurst Mall when they had stopped carrying Apple II and IIGS software well over a year earlier. This was around Christmas time.

For humor, I also recall having to beg my mother to loan me the money since I didn't have enough cash in my wallet (I did have more in the bank) and wasn't old enough for a check book or credit card, and probably wouldn't have been able to get an ATM card even if I was willing to pay the fees as a freshman in high school (ATM cards were not free in the 20th century or at least not until the end of the '90s. I believe they first started becoming free when First Chicago started their ill-fated idea of charging for the use of tellers, which went about as well as New Coke).

The IE games have still been getting re-released every few years, though mostly as various BG/IWD collections. Are you sure it wasn't an IWD1+2 boxed set?
