Does Wis & Cha really matter for a cleric or druid?

Can anyone disrupt spells? I thought only Wizard Slayers could? Or is that what you mean? :)

Any damage dealt doing spellcasting will disrupt the spell.

Well sometimes. I have seen spell casters take damage and not be disrupted but I cannot yet see any pattern to it. Most of the time damage will stop a spell but at times you can hit someone as much as you want and the spell will go off. That has happened to my characters too where I have been hit and still got the spell off. That is rare though as you say most of the time any damage seems to have a chance at stopping a spell and the chance is fairly good.

Granted if we wanted to go literal on the rules then the spell disruption should happen on a hit (not even damage just by hit) but most people do not play that way.

Since elemental damage pierces stone skins it is an effective way to keep up the pressure on a caster even when they think they are safe.

Blackblood and Gnasher are awesome clubs for a druid. Gnasher does damage for four rounds and will disrupt a spell each round.

So what is the point of a Wizard Slayer?

Joke would be that there isn't one but that wouldn't be 100% accurate.

Wizard Slayer would allow to apply spell failure over several rounds so even when you miss they can still fail a spell (so long as you hit before that point). I think that slayer spell failure works on hits even if stone skin is up so that helps too.

That said wizard slayer is so not worth the effort.

Seconded Gnasher and Blackblood for druids. They're pretty good.

Wizard slayers are very situational. Every melee hit applies +10% chance of spell failure, but by the time you've hit enough that you get a decent chance of spell failure, you'll have either killed the mage or worked yourself through most of his stoneskins. A weapon with elemental damage (the more types, the better, flail of ages is awesome for this) will give a much higher chance of interrupting a spell for each and every hit.

It might work if you get in a few hits on stoneskins and the mage will afterwards trigger a protection from magic weapons so no weapons you have will normally hurt it, but the spell failure from the wizard slayer would still be active and working.

Situational. Very situational. On the other hand, not so bad to try instead of the umpteenth kensai/thief. The UAI will negate all the disadvantages, just like for the Kensai.

Hmm. We have never done it that way. We always pic class then roll em up. When we played 2nd edition we would make the max score go up or down to meet the 17 CHA required for a paladin.
    Dif peeps dif ways :p

Ok so unless I've just overlooked it, a high Cha is just for flavor? Not anything really effected in this game? I know it's for P&P but what about this video game???

There's one or two different choices in talks, one especially with gaining access to Spellhold that actually influences something. Otherwise, CHA is mostly for flavour. And for those one or two talks there's a ring that sets your CHA to 18, easily available in the beginning of BG2.

Similarly, INT is mostly for flavour as well. Even for mages it only really influences how many spells they can write to their spellbook (and with potions you can work around that as well).

At least WIS gives bonus spells to clerics and druids. It should also give you better saving throws, but it doesn't in IE games.

STR, DEX and CON all have clearly defined usefulness, though.

Int is more than just for flavor. It tells you how many mind flayer hits you can take before your brain is eaten! :p

I seem to remember Cha having an impact on prices at stores as well.

Yep, Cha affects item prices but only the leader's Cha score matters. I also seem to remember someone pointing out that it delays when evil/good/neutral NPCs leave due to reputation change and it delays when two NPCs (like Keldorn/Viconia, Anomen/Aerie, etc) fight each other.
