Icewind dale : Enhanced edition was recently released, but it doesn't seem like an enhanced edition will be made for the 2nd game, according to a review with rpggamer :

    read more here : http://www.rpgamer.com/games/icewind/icewindee/icewindeeint.html

Now, i assume this will create an influx of players that will want to play the sequel after finishing IWD:EE, and they will just default to IWD2 as it is currently, albeit with mods to fix the resolution issue (Bigg's Widescreen Mod)

One thing i've not seen mentioned in this forums mod thread, though is the Icewind dale 2 widescreen Interface mod, which solves a major problem, the fact that the interface does not scale with the new resolution after using Bigg's widescreen mod.
however, this mod fixes that problem, and changes it into this :

    Before & After
    [IMG] [IMG]

Mod can be found here :
    http://havredest.eklablog.fr/interfaces-pour-widescreen-a42876917

Site is in french, though you can find english install instructions at the bottom.
Installer is in french as well, though it shouldn't be hard to figure out, pretty much just click on the "next" button.

Like i said, i couldn't find it on the forums here, nor on a lot of the other mod repositories for IWD2.
So, i thought i'd post about it here in hopes of those people itching to play the game after finiching IWD:EE get a chance to see it :D

More intense idea use their IWD engine to remake IWD2 with 2e rules. For me that would be so much better as I vastly prefer those rules (more so PnP than computer but still). Probably too much work but hey then you would not have to do weird XP farming methods to progress like you do in the original game.

It would take too much work? Please. All I'm hearing is "We can't make a quick buck off this, so we're not investing the manpower." Remake it with 2E rules? No thanks. They clearly have no regard for game balance or feel. If they can't do it right, they might as well not do it. Besides, 3E rules were IWD2's best feature, even if they weren't perfect.

I'd rather play IWD2 bughy as it is right now than a shady convert to 2E (and probably with a copy-paste GUI from IWDEE). As far as the interface, if someone has the skills and the knowledge to do it, two slices from the dialogue box (one from the top and one from the bottom) can be cut and pasted so that the interface will fit on the whole screen. I think it's a more elegant solution that the continuous pillars on right and left.

You'd probably have more luck contacting the aoriginal author of the mod, or modding it yourself if that's what you want, though i think the 'pillar' filing is done intentionally because the text field is a set size.

If all the hundreds of fan-made mods that are playable on BG2, could somehow be played in 3E reasonably bug-free, it would top my list of favourite games hands-down. Westley Weimer's "Icewind Gate II" conversion does attempt to transfer BG2 into the ID2 engine, but it still has bugs, and no BG2 mods are playable this way.
Even the vanilla ID2 has worse pathfinding problems and slowdown than any other IE game (sometimes merely pausing a battle happens too slow), but the 3E rules are just worth so much. I think the devs could start over with something that functions as smoothly as the 2E games, then incorporate the spells, the classes, the leveling system and so on. It's basically starting from scratch as the EE dev said, but it would definitely be worth it for the players. Just not equitable for the staff. Alas.

    Here's a marketable proposal:
Once the newness of BG2:EE has worn off (read: sales, receptivity to a new thing) in a few years, come out with... [drumroll]
    Baldur's Gate 3: Extra-Enhanced-Edition (the 3 'E's for 3rd Edition)
    - Smooth 2E style UI sporting the 3rd edition
    - Conversion of BG2+ToB into the new 3E
    - Old fan-made BG2 and ID2 mods with extra content are incorporated if reasonably coherent within the storyline
    - A whole new storyline; they might as well make some completely new content to go with it. A >suggestion< for the content.

If it becomes a reality, this new 3E-adapted engine should be easy enough to implement on ID2 as well. Especially if ID2 was used as a reference, and compatibility was kept in mind during BG3 development. It may be overly ambitious, but if I saw it on Kickstarter, I'd back it.
