I'm already up to 50% with items I'm wearing so I'm looking for other sources. I'm wearing the amulet of power +5% MR
Also the ring of Gaxx +10% MR
    Cloak of Balduran +25% MR
and the Robe of Vecna +10% MR

now I need weapons or shields :)
    Armor too.

Sword of Balduran +2 gives 10% MR - can be bought at the adventurer's mart.
Hindo's Doom +4 gives 10% MR - the +3 version of this sword is in watcher's keep, can't be upgraded to +4 until you find hindo's hand in abizigal's lair (ToB)
Carsomyr +5 gives 50% - Can only be wielded by Paladins again, 2handed. kill Firkraag for it. I've heard this sword sets your MR to 50%, not adds to it though.
Purifier +4 gives 30% - Can only be obtained by LG characters, and only wielded by paladin's but is a 1handed bastard sword. obtained in watcher's keep.
Gram the Sword of Grief +5 gives 5% - only obtainable in ToB after getting the base sword from abizigal's lair, and the heart of the damned from sendai's enclave.

Armor wise, there's the Robe of Vecna or Robe of the G/N/E Archmagi - 5% each.
Enkidu's Full Plate - also 5%, can't be obtained untill ToB in amkethran.
Human Flesh +5 gives 20% MR. - Evil characters only, and you will need to lug the human flesh along for a few chapter, as well as kill the silver dragon in the underdark, then get them both to fael in umar hills to get the +5 version. If you did not kill the silver dragon and are allready past the underdark, or if you've allready called fael out before and guessed his name wrong/called him a monster, he'll be gone, effectively locking you out of getting this armor.

You could get another 5% by switching out your amulet for Kaligun's Amulet of Magic Resistance or the Amulet of Seldarine, both give 10% magic resistance instead of the 5% you have now.
The Machine of Lum the Mad can also give you +5% MR, and if i recall correctly, one of the good options during the hell trials grants another 10%.

Carsomyr counts but others as well :)

    Thanks xosmi.
I just noticed that the FotA +5 gives +5% MR. Nice!

    No problem :)
I think the flail of the ages only gives the 5% MR once all 5 heads are assembled though, again taking you until you've killed abizigal and have gotten the poison flail head from watcher's keep.

I have to admit, I cheat in the 5 headed FotA once I get the 3 headed one finished. It's one of those items that you don't get to actually enjoy until near the end game :(
I like to enjoy my items before I finish. Lol.
But yes you have to have all 5 heads.
I force myself going through a game legitly and then go with items I can't get until late game or I have no clue how to get. Or if I can't beat the fight to get them. Like the staff of the Magi.

The staff of the magi is pretty easy to get pretty early on with some cheesing.
I allways have a thief (yoshimo) put down a load of traps on the spot the lich is going to teleport to to insta-kill him, then lure the rest of the goons out of the fog of war one by one.
If you have the shield of balduran the beholder is a joke, the human swordsman isn't too dificult to take down either.
vampirella is a bit harder to take down, though getting azuredge should help if you can get her to fail the save and be destroyed. alternatively, get the daystar sword (you'll need to kill another lich to get it though) and use the sunray ability it gives.
The mage holding the staff of magi is perhaps the hardest to take down, though i've allways found tossing in a few cloudkills just outside her vision range worked.

Isn't there a Maralith in there? Those things tear through my party like nothing.

Not to my memory, though layenne(the mage that has the staff) does gate in a pit fiend, which is easily taken care of by casting protection from evil on yourself. if you use the cloudkill tactic, the pit fiend won't even notice you and might even start attacking the twisted rune.

Oh yea. The Maralith is in the Watcher's Keep. Level 4 I think is the one with the 3 keys in the middle of the "room"? That's another part of the game I can't get by without cheating :(

Oh, you mean the final pedestal battle on watchers keep lvl 5, just before demogorgon.
Yeah, that one is one tough battle. One important thing to remember is that both the succubus and maralith that spawn use Protection from Magical Weapons, and the beholder casts stoneskin on itsself, so try to break their defenses or gear up accordingly.

you can hide your party in the room to the top-right, use 1 character to activate the pilar then run before the enemies spawn, and try to lure the enemy one by one.
Traps can also be placed before making them spawn :)

Setting traps on spawn points and attacking into fog of war has always been far too cheesy for me. If you're metagaming to that extent, you might as well use the console for the stuff you want.

I dunno - if it's the third key your party uses and the first two resulted in spawns at the point of key turning, I think it's eminently reasonable to assume that turning the last key is also going to result in a nasty spawn right there. So plant some traps.

Abusing the fog of war is something else. Limburger.

I usually don't resort to it, though that battle is a tough one
I've beaten them without cheesing before, though only with heavy micromanaging and with pause on spell cast/target destroyed on and a fully decked out 6man party.

There aren't any doors inside the Twisted Rune hideout. :p

It's one thing to set a few traps tactically before battle and another thing entirely to stack a bunch of them on the exact spawn point of the enemy you need to get rid of.

But anyway, I've always found the TR fight to be too easy, actually. Or at least somewhat poorly designed. Obviously, it was balanced for the average SoA player (maybe slightly above average), but in reality (that is to say, Faerunian reality), Shangalar and Shyressa are both epic level characters (27 and 23 respectively) and full-fledged archmages at that. They are horribly underplayed.

Sorry, I wasn't talking about the twisted rune, I was talking about the Watcher's Keep battle Eyebreaker and xosmi were discussing just above.

Trapping twisted rune is just chees-o.
