[IMG] I'm curently doing PT with a little help from my 'friend' (okay, so I bought the strategy book!)
Me and my buddies are currently wandering the catacombs in search of Pharod's smelly custard sphere thing. I've picked up on 2 quests, both of which require me to speak to dead people to complete them, only problem is...I can't. I've killed all the varguoilles but Chad still won't talk to me - not that he would before then either. I just get a description of his twitchy-necked deadness every time I click on his corpse. I'm also supposed to kill some sort of 'super-ghoul' before being able to speak to Gris the Vulture, but so far no super-ghoul and no response from dead Gris either. What am I doing wrong? Or not doing? HEEELLLPPP, please!!

OK the reason you can't talk to the dead yet is because, I assume, you've yet to pick up the ability from the Dead Nations area elsewhere in the catacombs (there should be a door leading to it from the main catacomb 'hub'). Eventually once you're there you'll get the chance to learn the ability off one of the deaders. I think it has something to do with trying to talk to 'Stale Mary', realising you can't and then being taught how to do so by another character (possibly the skeleton priest but can't remember for certain). Also not sure if u have to complete the main quests in Dead Nations first before you can get the ability.Anyhow you're sure to get it eventually if ur in the Dead Nations.

Idon't remember having to kill any 'super ghoul' to speak to Gris. I think as long as u've got the ability to speak with dead you can talk to him.

    *sigh*

First try to talk to Stale Mary (Dead Nations Catacombs). Then go ask Hargrimm how does he understand her. He'll tell you a clue, so you get back to her and learn that Stories-Bones-Tell ability.

    Super ghoul, my ass.
When you enter the place with Gris' body, there will be three ordinary ghouls to fight.

As you've noticed, the official strategy guide isn't exactly 100% accurate...
Maybe it's intentional so the game isn't TOO easy since you constantly wonder about inconsistencies. ;)

Those three ghouls are tougher than normal, give more exp and treasure than normal, so I'd say they could be called 'super ghouls'...

One ghoul has HP64 and gives XP1200.
Other two have HP48 and give XP420.

They indeed are tougher a bit from other ghouls. But if these are super creatures, than I'm Superman.
    *sigh*

Extremist, you seem to know the stats of every creature. How many times have you played through PST? Or you just used the hex editor just for this thread.
    Just curios.

[IMG] Thanks for your advice everybody (although can I just point out to the ones who did that *sigh* thing, yes I AM a mere hopeless amateur and you ARE obviously courageous veterans, but at some point you started out where I am now before you got to where YOU are now. Thank you.)

Yes there are a lot of errors in that strategy guide - most of them I've been able to work out for myself, but this one just stumped me because the book put everything the wrong way round. I decided to use it rather than just download a Walkthrough from the web because in the past I've found some of them give the actual answer to every quest, which is great if that's what you're looking for but wasn't really what I wanted.

I got this ability last night by talking to Stale Mary in the Dead Nations. I'm glad I make decisions in this game that I wouldn't do in real life. What I mean is to learn the language you let Stale Mary touch you first. Don't know why, I guess she's just a touchy-feely zombie. Well if there was such a thing as zombies in real life I don't think I'd be going around letting them touch me. Likewise I don't think I'd let that woman, Mary or something, in the Buried Village dissect my body for clues ;) But then again I'm not immortal so maybe that's what makes the difference. So my advice is go forth and touch the zombie :D

Le Mat, those sighs were not for you but for NamelessOne and Volar.

For you I placed . But not for you as a player, but for you as strategy guide user.

    ;)

That woman I was refering to is Marta (the Seamstress) not Mary. I should have known because that's too simple of a name to be in Planescape, not with names like Mebbeth and Kossah-Jai floating around ;)
