[IMG] I pickpocketed a ring that I was not able to use an ID spell on. (I have a Mage level 3 and a Bard level 4).

I paid Gerth 100 to ID it. It turned out to be a Ring of Protection +2. (WOW!)

Why was I not able to use an ID spell on it to ID it?

BTW Q: Why is there not an option to post my signature file?

    Thanks

Could you cast Identify or did it just not identify when you casted it? Did you have this spell memorized or where you casting it off a scroll?

As for the sigs, you'd have to ask Sorcerer about that one. Personally I dislike any signature that isn't text or a quote. When you start getting into lame graphic sigs, things can get pretty annoying on any message board that allows them.

[IMG] I think the way Identify works is that every item has a point value, like a Lore point value. The higher this value, the more obscure or difficult to identify the item is. To identify it, your character has to meet or exceed that value. For a Bard, she would have to have a Lore percentage that exceeds the Lore point value of the item - which at high levels, is no problem for a Bard. I'm not sure how it works with an Identify spell (I always use my Bard), but it probably relates to the caster's Lore percentage and level.

I removed the signatures because they just make for unnecessary clutter and are otherwise totally useless. Everyone can see the name and rank of the poster beside each of their posts (and additional info about them by clicking on the Profile button) so I don't think there's a need for signatures.
Check some other boards to see how silly it looks when the same guy replies 5 times to a single topic with maybe 2 lines of text and 5 lines of signature.

Yes, I was NOT able to use my ID spell on it, it was memorized and I had slept, so it should have been available. When I l-clicked on the spell, I was not able to use the spell (not highlighted). Probably because it was such a high class item.

Nope... Identify spell can ID any item without regard, no matter how powerful it is. Maybe you were trying to do it with a wrong character... you have to have the item in the mage's inventory for him to identify it. Maybe you were trying to do it with another of your chars and this, obviously, didn't work.

Maybe your bard was wearing armor when you tried to cast identify. bards and mages can't cast spells in armor. Remove the armor in order to identify with a character that normally uses armor. (One exception, a character can cast if he/she is wearing elven chain mail.)

Perhaps even you're a Specialty Mage that cannot cast Identify?
