Spell protections BG2 vs IWD

    Back to the topic.

    Man, I would just LOVE to trade half of protection spells from BG2 for ONE spell from IWD - Mirrir Image. Did you actually read its description and use it to all its potential?

    It sais smth like: "A caster CANNOT be hit UNTIL all of the mirrors are gone". This goes for traps, magic, physical attacks, etc., etc.

    By using that spell I've beaten IWD with a F/M/C and never worried about traps or fireballs or else.

    In BG2 it was implemented in a whole different way - a caster gets a CHANCE (depending on the number if images left) whether he or the image gets hit.

    [​IMG] Although in BG1, it was implemented the same way as in IWD...
    But then again, you have so many more powerful protection spells that you really don't need to rely on Mirror Image in BG2.

    I hate to drudge up the argument (actually I love it), but as one of the last of the real gamers, I would like to point out that EVERY spell in IWD is from 2nd edition rules. Granted they may not be core rules, but if you search through the endless requiem of tomes they published you will discover them all. 5 pro. slots in spec. is included in them as well. Just search though your wizards handbook, the ToM, BoA, or any of their other plentiful resources and you will discover the rules somewhere.

    Except that 3ed thief backstab thing they included. I thought for sure one of you would have jumped on that, but it was a good thing so I guess people don't complain.

    [​IMG] I have played quite a lot of 2nd edition D&D for over 10 years now and had many DMs including myself. The way I have always played and everone else I have played with went by the standard rule that the DM is god and can do whatever he/she wants to including making up monsters spells or whatever they feel like. As a matter of fact I beleive somewhere in the front section of the players handbook it even says something to state that the rules are guidlines and feel free to make any adjustments you feel are needed.
    Whats my point here.... oh yeah. well just think of Bioware or BIS as the DMs and accept the fact that they are gods and can make any modifications to the rules they feel they want to. Including leaving some things out and adding some things in that may or may not have shown up in any 2nd edition rules.

    Well that my view of it anyways.

    I was just trying to figure out if those protection spells were from 3rd edition...All the games I played never included those spells so I was a little miffed...

    Like I said before..spellcasting in BG2 is different then BG1 or IWD as far as these protection spells go regardless of where they came from...Dispel Magic was enough for me...

    Actually that was in the DM's guide, original printing. Not sure if it existed after that, never bother to read the prologue more than twice, but as fate would have it I remember that line well. It was underlined, highlighted, and christened as the wised piece of published material on the game. I don’t remember the exact phrase that it used, but we have come to recognize it as THE only rule you bring up to the DM.

    Many of us have the firm belief that we play the way we want. Hey, we may have thrown the rules out the window, but I think I got a pretty good look at them on the way down.

    Memories.

    Just for thoughts of you who may think this just sounds like the ramblings of a venerable gamier, I would like to say that I own every 2nd edition book published (wish that was a lie) and I only felt it necessary to write in two of them. One of them was that statement in the DMG, and the other was to cross out the section in the PHB that had the rules for evil clerics turning paladins. Don’t even want to open that can.
