[IMG] I can't seem to make dimension door work,

    1. I have to cast it on one of my players... Then a door flashes 3 times (I can try and walk through it but nothing happens)

    2. If I pause, cast Dimesion Door on caster, then place cursor to where I want to be, then un-pause, nothing happens. The door just flashes and the guy stays right where he started.

    Any ideas?

Only a mage can walk through a dimension door, and it has to be the mage that cast it.

The method I used was like all other spells. Click on the icon and then click where you want to go. It's just like a fireball or summoning spell. You click on the spell then click where you want the spell to take place.

What you're doing is casting a dimension door on the same spot as you're standing, in effect you're teleporting back to the same place as you were standing.

[IMG] I'm an illusionist thief, casting dimension door, the spell cursor remains grey unless it is aimed directly at my character, and then, as you rightly point out, I don't move.

I can't seem to click the cursor anywhere else, because it remains gray...

Do you have to be a mage (as opposed to an illusionist to cast the spell? Do you cast it on yourself and then place the cursor to where you want to go?

    Heeeeeelp.

Dimension door is an Alteration spell and the opposing school is Necromancy so you sould be able to cast the spell. Being and illusionist shouldn't affect your ability to cast it.

Are you sure you're casting it right. It should be like an area effect spell, eg. fireball. You click on the icon in the toolbar then click where you want to go - the spell is cast and off you go. The only other thing I could think of is that it's a place where you can't go. When you DD you have to actually be able to walk on the surface (not necessarily walk to). So you can't DD onto water. Also you can only move within your line of sight. So if you're trying to go somewhere you can't see that could be another reason.

Yes to all the above, line of sight, somewhere I can walk to etc. No dice.

I can't get the Icon to light up (after clicking on the door on the toolbar), it remains grey, even 2 feet away. (basically unless I cast the spell ON someone.

I had the same problem in BG2.

I guess I'll just have to find a way to walk there.
