I decided to carry out an experiment to determine the best summoned moster, I am in lower Dorn's deep and I am near Bandoth's place on a cliff when i chanced on an ettin who is at the bottom trying to reach me up the cliff(but can't of course). I am a level 10 mage and am playing in Heart of Fury mode. So i went inner the cliff to rest and memorise some of the level 5 moster summoning spells and summon them one by one next to the dumb ettin and record their damage dealt and received and reloaded with each type of monster summoned. Of course no one can really stand up tp a Heart of Fury Ettin alone and all of them died. Here are the results:

    Fire Elemental: 75 damage dealt
    Survived 9 attacks

    Water Elemental: 88 damage dealt
    Survived 9 attacks

    Earth Elemental: 156 damage dealt
    Survived 9 attacks

    Shadowed MonsterII
    (2 tough lizardmen,3 goblin elite)
    140 damage dealt
    Survived 15 attacks

Create Shadows(3 created): 34 damage dealt
    Survived 15 attacks

Hmm....So, it seems that Earth ele. dished out the most punishment. I was quite surprised at Fire ele. poor performance, pathetic crushing damage and frivilous fire damage. Water is not too bad, and I was pleased that despite shadowed monsters 40% HP, their damage were able to rival that of Earth ele. They also survived longer than Earth ele. But don't take all this for fact. They can vary from time to time. So which is the best? You be the judge.

I don't pay attention to how much damage they do, the only time I summon monsters is to keep the enemy busy while my archers pick them off with arrows... well, ok, the truth is that I use them to keep the enemy busy while I run like the demons of hell are on my tail when I realize I'm in way over my head and haven't quick-saved in over an hour. *laugh*

[IMG] I never summoned any elementals, but there is a great belt in the game in the HOW part, maybe you've played that? It sounds like you probably have, but the Belt of Ogre Blood allows you to summon five or six Ogres. Boost them with spells and you're rockin'. Same for the Horn of Valhalla
with the Human Berserkers. They're no match for some of the elementals, but I'd take them over the summoned monsters or animals anyday.
