man, if you are indoors, 3rd level druid spells are worthless. am I the only one who finds them subpar? call lightning is sweet, but not inside. i understand some new ones were added in HoW. If you install that during a current campaign, will you get the new spells?

If you want to know 100% that you are playing off the HOW platform, just check the screen as it is loading. The title screen will come up as Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter.

That would be my suggestion. I'm playing it through with the HOW addition & this is my first time through. From what I've read, there are one or two items we may miss out on, but the gains are huge - especially in the Druid Spell category!

    Enjoy!

Druids rule with heart of winter installed. My druid is my most powerful spell caster. There is also a nifty new spell to make up for call lightning and the new forms are really cool looking. Don't wait another minute to install HOW unless you have a conjurer in your party.

um.....sorry. read the help about the double posting. so do that mean I need to wait for someone else to respond before I do?

Read the Boards O'Magick FAQ please, especially about double posting...

To answer your question, they changed the opposition schools for mages in HoW, so a Conjurer can learn fewer spells...

Corval - Real quick - don't double post. The moderators here are very fair, but firm on that one!

    Check out:
    http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/faq.html#doubles

Instead, just edit your previous post.

(BTW - you can delete your new post if you want to. Hit the quill & scoll icon and check the "delete" box. If you do, I'll delete my post telling you about this, so no one will be the wiser!)

    [I got beat by BTA!]

[Actually only we moderators can delete posts - BTA]

[Then what does the "DELETE? to delete this post, check this box" box do? - MAT
BTW - you only beat me b/c I looked up the link to pass on! ;)]

Hmmm... Maybe after you level up again they'll show up... I can't remember for sure.

Oh, and about new stuff in the stores; they'll only show up if you've never visited the store before.

MAT - That checkbox is for us moderators to delete your posts, obviously ;)

And you're probably right about looking up the link as well :p

I think you have to reach 7th level if your game is in progress...I know that's when it happened for my priests

DRUIDS SUCK ASS! They're spells are weak, they can't wear any armor more than studded leather, can't surpass level fourteen, have a VERY limited weapon choice and even their shapeshifting doesn't help. All in all, compared to a cleric, druids are extremely unreliable!

druids have some great spells like insect plage - but their problem is that their cool abilities aren't implemented in BG-2. This was corrected in ToB IIRC. However, if you concentrate, do you know some more stuff that sucks ass?

Yep, bards. What use, with the exception of bard songs, are a bard's special abilities?
Sure, they can cast [some] mage spells. That's about all though. Personally, I'd rather go with a fighter/mage. They have lower THAC0s, can cast more mage spells (and on level 1) and, depending on CON, have higher hitpoints.

Lord Sparhawk you need to chill about Bards & Druids. They are two of the best classes in AD&D.

Bards - You say a Bard is not as good as a fighter/mage. Well for the XP they are great. In 2E thus in IWD, BG, etc, a bard only needs half the XP of a mage. Hence, a bard reaches 3rd level at 2500 XP, while a figher/mage is still 1/1 with 1250 in each class. Do the math and follow this progression. A bard can weild any weapon, has some thieving skills, can cast spells, and has bard abilities all for the same XP as a thief. Plus when not casting they can wear up to chainmail.

I agree that Druids were a little robbed in IWD but now with HoW they have come into their own. They have excellent granted power and good spells. A druid is as good as a priest of equal level any day.
