I'm new to Bauldurs Gate, and I'm really enjoying Tales of the Sword coast. But I have a question about the number of spells a mage can use. How am I able to memorize more upper level spells. I'm already a level 7 mage (invoker), but I can't memorize any spells L5 and above. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanx

IIRC you wont be able to memorize a single level 5 or above spell, so you'll keep throwing those stinking clouds at Kobolds for a while.

There's a difference between character level and spell level. You won't be able to memorize level 5 wizard spells until you reach 9th level.

    Here's the breakdown:

Level 1 mage spells: Level 1 mage
Level 2 mage spells: Level 3 mage
Level 3 mage spells: Level 5 mage
Level 4 mage spells: Level 7 mage
Level 5 mage spells: Level 9 mage

I would like to add that you won't be able to use more than level 5 spells in TotSC. There is an experience cap for your characters, and when you reach it, your characters will not advance in levels anymore. Although, if you remove this cap by using an XP cap remover. After this, when your character's level exceeds 12, your character will theoretically be able to cast e.g. level 6 spells, but since there are no level 6 spell scrolls in Baldur's Gate at all, you won't have any spells of higher level than 5.

Excellent question - and I don't know the answer to it. In fact, I don't think it's possible to get even 5th level priest spells. You CAN get level 5 druid spells, but I think clerics max out at level 8, meaning they would still only be able to cast level 4 spells. I have never removed the experience point cap, so I don't know. Definitely for wizards, the page would simply be blank - just like if you got to level 3, but didn't have any level 2 spells in your spellbook, but with clerics/druids, I don't know.

Yes, the page of available (memorizable) spells (left page in your spellbook) would be blank. Although your character would normally get the Spell Slots while advancing in levels, because the total spell slot progression was integrated into the game, both in case of priests and wizards. So on the right page, you would see slots, but there wouldn't be any spells to memorize.
