One observation I have made in IWD - the soundtrack of the background music is excellent. Puts everything in BG1, BG2, and Planescape: Tormet to shame. Anyone else notice how cool the music is?

The excellent music was one of the things about IWD BIS was especially proud of. And yes, everyone noticed it. There must be quite a few posts in the archives commenting on it.

    I never did :(

I must admit the only thing I remember about IWD's music is how absent it was most of the time. I remember walking through entire dungeons with nothing whatsoever playing in the backgroud.

Either that, or it's so low and passive that I never noticed it.

The only place I actually remember hearing music is Kuldahar, and from what I remember it's quite good.

    OT BG2 music rules :)

That is an interesting but odd observation Ziad. I love the music to IWD and it seemed to stand out a lot especially in the Severed hand and the Snake Temple. i must admit though that there is a slight descrepency as the music is not continuous in some cases, (like in Kulduhar it will play and it is beautiful but there is no way to keep it playing). often times the good music in an area is activated by battle, and there is plenty of that in IWD.

The music in IwD is just awsome!!

But the battle music in the Vale of Shadows is weird IMO.

@Elvenblade: It's been a while since I played, but I actually found the VoS battle music quite chilling and I jumped the first time I heard it. Could be different for me now however.

The music in IWD1 is the best thing that ever happened in IE.

Jeremy Soule caught me by utter surprise, and completely hardcore. I extracted the music and used that until I found out you could order the soundtrack. Inon Zur took a bit to get used to. He grows on ya', but at first I could muster nothing but a frown. He's not terrible, but I mostly pick and choose amongst his trinkets.

Had I not backed up my original, I would have LONG since ground that poor bastard completely under. I have destroyed a couple of portable cd players, largely due to that soundtrack. I've long since mixed in the Heart of Winter stuff, and there is some good stuff in there.

There might be, one or two tracks from IWD2 that I kind of like. But the entire load from IWD1, and the vast majority of HoW, is good.

I must say, that the music in Easthaven in the beginning, it is the best game music that have *ever* been created, no deal about it.

Well, the music in ID is relaxing enough too make you close your eyes, and then dream, just dream like you are really there.

Does anybody know where to get the mp3 version of the music?
Would be nice for the IWD-download section of SP

Lemme know, Taluntain, and I can convert the music for you. I can make Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WMA, AC3, and FLAC.

I prefer OGG and AC3, since I know the music and they best represent the raw digital. MP3 does ok with really high bitrates (320kbps VBR/ABR, but even then it still pops at the high end of the spectrum). FLAC would, of course, also represent the music since it's "lossless", but the files aren't much less than the 150k/s that cd-audio is.

    I am willing to...convert IwD2's music, as well. ;)

Actually, there's a software that converts the music files from IE games into WAV files. I can't remember its name though, or where it was hosted... I'll try and dig it up.

The music of IWD is great. Sometimes you forget it's mostly hack n slash. I still think its brilliant fun. The makers get top marks for the music. :thumb:
