I finally finished ToLM. I was wondering if anyone else has finished it and what they thought in general - no spoilers. IMO it is a dungeon crawl to the nth degree. True you can pick up some good items and get XP. I'm not going to comment on the final battle because anything I said would be a spoiler.

    Simply put - I didn't like it.

Me neither... The storyline is even less than ID, and now it has just been deminuished to well almost nothing... Just a hack&slash add-on...

Well, considering it's for free... I actually enjoyed most of it, with the exception of the crypts (too big, too repetitive). The final battle was quite challenging. It is a dungeon crawl "the the Nth degree" but then again so is everything else in the game.

Not great, but not bad either, and definitely worth getting just because it's free, and acts as the 1.42 patch.

At first I liked it, but it's just too much hack'n slash. You fight your way through stupid numbers of baddies to get to yet another level with stupid numbers of baddies. Fun a couple of times, but honestly, now I cant be bothered.

I enjoyed it for what it was - and considering it was free.

True, the best thing about it is that it is free. Can't beat that. You can also get some nice stuff. The first part of the mod is pretty good. It is later on that it becomes a trudge through dreary land.

I don't see it as a stand alone mod. Clearly Heart of Winter was way to short for a buyable expansion. Add both and you have a story plus dungeon crawl.

I have to say I found it sheer hard work, and boringly repetitive. It was mostly as Takara said, with a final battle of 'load until won'.
By the end I just wanted to be finished.
HoW on its own was a bit short as an expansion, and very linear as well, but that just made it the same as the rest of IwD.

I really enjoy playing through the TotL.
I enjoyed the hack'n slash and the last dungeon. Also it was fun to finish off the Lure master at the end.
Then you return to Lonelywood. Now you are better equipped and higher level - In much better shape to finish off HOW.

But it all depends on your interest in linear hack'n slash. Personally i love it ! :D

It's good, but it would be so much better if you get out and come back. It can be frustratingly difficult in places. My latest bash at it (thesedays) I've been playing on insane difficulty and getting double xp. When I bash the Luremaster its on to Belhifet since I did absolutely everything else. My party is mid to upper 20th levels. It would be very lame if it wasn't free.
