I recently bought and installed Icewind Dale, but it is all but unplayable, because the Game speed is very high. I remember I had it at a good speed, but my HD died, so I lost all of my installed things. I have fiddled with the options with game speed, and have even set them the same as Baldurs Gate, which runs fine, to no avail.

I would realy like to play the game, since it looks pretty fun, if not a bit more lax then BG or BG2

I was going to suggest slowing it down in the config options, but if you already have to no avail I'm not sure what to suggest. I can't think of any other way to do it... Maybe move the slider right down?

Max out the AI updates and path search nodes, that should bring the speed down.

No. Don't max out the AI updates. AI updates are like the framerate; you'd want the framerate at 23fps or something.

The path-nodes will bog down your processor. More path nodes will cause massive battles to slug along at 7fps/updates-per-second. Keep the nodes at 100,000 so your "framerate" remains at a smooth 23fps, or whatever you set it to.

Anything above 35fps, and you'll notice the floating text is out of sync with the animation. I hate it when I do this on the opening cut-scene of Baldur's Gate 2, and Irenicus is done blasting me but the floating text is still going through it's cycle.

Turn your AI updates down to 23. Turn your path nodes to 100,000; you can crank them down to 4,000 and the really large battles will run much smoother, like when you enter the Heart of Winter's boss lair, and there's about 30 guys that rush you at the same time.

I stick to 30 fps for a subsequent time through the game. For the first time, 23 sounds about right. You don't want it to be just finishing the game, you need to delight in it. ;)
