Hey everybody. This thread will be detailing my first trek through IWD. I've never played this game before, and would like to ask that no one spoil me, unless I'm specifically asking a question.

    Anyway, here's my team:

Vikor Human Paladin -- This is the party leader. He's using a bastard sword right now, and has a composite longbow for times he needs to make a missile attack. He prefers melee, though.

Klorox Dwarf Fighter -- He's my main tank. A gruff dwarf with a good heart, he's got a huge two handed axe, and has a heavy crossbow if enemies are too far away. As with Viktor, Klorox likes to get up close and personal.

Kilona Dwarf Fighter/Cleric -- Part of her "charm" is her complete honesty, and the fact that she'll say whatever is on her mind, and at any time, mind you. She's got a big warhammer, and even bigger muscles. She also uses a sling for missile combat, but would prefer to meet baddies head on, or utter a prayer to Haela Brightaxe.

Ysberlanas Half-Elf Fighter/Druid -- She's the nature lover of the group. Modeled after Baldur's Gates Jaheira, she is a fierce combatant, and loyal worshipper of Mother Nature. She's armed with a sling and scimitar.

Jaq Half-Elf Bard -- He's another charmer, and adventuring just to learn more tales to tell and make a name for himself. He's armed with a beautifully crafted composite longbow, and a halberd to attack over team mates if enemies get too close. He'd normally never use such a weapon (too clunky and unweildy), but has heard of the harsh nature of Icewind Dale and is taking no chances.

Gnorman Gnome Illusionist/Thief -- A prankster who doesn't appreciate short jokes. Uses a shortbow, and loves casting colorful spells.

So far, the team has helped out a little boy who's fishing trip was ruined by some thieving goblins. An old fisherman needed a drink, and the dwarven in my party didn't see anything wrong there. They've also helped a man who's dreams were being tormented by a sirine (I think) who was in love with an ancestor of his. After talking to a pushy priest of Tempus, there's some barbarian's body under this temple! Hrothgar, the leader of the town has sent this party on a mission to find out what happened to a caravan that has been late arriving. After we do this, he'll have a much larger mission for us... sounds like fun!

Here's my first dilema: I can't leave the area. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or whatever, but I don't know how I can go searching for this caravan to the south if I can't leave this first map. All help is appreciated, TIA.

    Good hunting!

ON EDIT: Nevermind, I found the way in the South-East.

ON EDIT 2: I found the caravan, and feel sorry for those lost. Apparently a tribe of orcs killed the merchants. Sad ending for them, but this party avenged their deaths by eradicating the whole tribe of those evil orcs, and their enormous leader as well. In that big battle, Gnorman came up big. In an uncharacteristicly wise choice of his, he was able to use both of his memorized spells: His Sleep spell saved the day for us, and his Identify spell helped with an enchanted dagger with the ability to cause fire damage. No one in the party can use the thing, but we'll hold onto it for a little while, in case there's a monster encountered that needs magic to hit it. I'm going to take a break at this point. I'm ready to enter Hrothgar's cabin with the bad news.

PS: I won't be updating this thread all weekend, it's my one-year Wedding Anniversarry, and I think the Wife and I will find better things to do than play video games. :) ;)

    Alright, a small update:

I returned to Hrothgar and he asked me to run a small errand and then we were on our way.

Unfortunately, on our way to Khuldahar, there was an avalanche caused by Frost Giants. We all swore that many a Frost Giants will meet their ends at our hands that day.

We were stuck for a while, but managed to make our way eventually to Khuldahar. After the avalanche, the party was ambushed by many goblins. We slaughtered them, I guess their aim isn't very good. We ended up meeting an ogre and a goblin who were not aggressive. Actually, they were asking for help, I think, with some bad headaches. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could think of doing to help these two. The party did free a small boy who was hiding in an old mill that had been taken over by goblins. His thanks was a wonderful reward.

I'll be updating soon, as I'll being exploring this new town soon. I just hope I can find a cure for these headaches for the two people in the pass.

Nature will provide its followers a way to help one but not the other. Unspoil that. ;)

Of course you could just administer the oldest cure for a headache in CRPG history, take their heads off.

Well, I spoke to a Druid in Khuldahar named Arundel. He gave us a cure for the Ogre (I think he was an ogre...?), but not the Goblin. If I don't find one soon, the little guy will have to suffer. Klorox and Kilona (the dwarves) think he should be killed anyway, we'll have to wait an see what happens.

The party spoke to a mage named Orrick, and agreed to look out for any elven ruins and let him know if we find anything. We also spoke to a crazy Gnome alchemist, who supposedly crash landed here a while ago in an airship.

The blacksmith's name is Conlan, and he's got some amazing things for sale! Wow, I just know we'll be returning to his shop after saving up some coin. The party wasted almost all we had on improving our armor. Jaq (the Bard) and Gnorman (the Illusionist/Thief) both sold their armors. They've decided to rely on spellcasting from here on out.

There's also a Barbarian Shaman asking for help. After we agreed to give it to him, he told the party to come back later. How rude!

The party is to keep an eye out for a missing heirloom (taken by some murderous yeti), and a missing priest of Ilmater. The main mission is to go into the Vale of Shadows, and investigate why the ring of warmth around a great oak tree in Khaldahar is shrinking. There will be undead there and many monsters.

UPDATE: There were a lot of undead in the vale, and in some crypts. We entered one crypt and couldn't get past a locked door, so I guess we'll have to come back later. In a different crypt, we fought many undead beasts, and Kilona was able to make a few of them run away, which helped a lot. We found some weapon upgrades, which is nice, but still haven't found why the ring of warmth is shrinking. There's a strange bone key in there that we found also, but I can't find the door that it's for.

I'm going to leave off now. I'll finish exploring the vale of shadows, and possibly a few more crypts later.

ON EDIT: Note to self: play a Gnome or Halfling Fighter or Fighter mutlticlass next time. This blacksmith has an awesome helmet for these guys!

Klorox, do you play with dolls sometimes? You sound like someone who likes to get friendly with inanimate objects. :D

LOL, sorry to disappoint, but no. I'm writing this after being heavily influenced by Harbourboy's similar threads on the SoA and ToB boards and his trek through the fantastic Baldur's Gate games.

Thanks for the support everybody! :)

Edit: I've restarted, and am more than willing to do a thread like this, but I need responses after mine or it'll be very hard to tell when I've updated! :)
