Elf fighter won't get proficient beyond 3 points!

    I have an elf fighter in the party, obviously for the long-sword and bow, but it won't get proficient after 3 points in either weapon, now I have to distribute them elsewhere. Is there a class-specific limit to fighter proficiency?

    I just finished the game in normal mode and I'm starting HoF, the fighter is at level 18, I had to put the points elsewhere and I reached 3rd level in three weapons and can't get beyond that.

    You cannot get more than 3 points in bow but you should be able to get 5 in longswords.
    My fighter9>druid had 5 points in long sword.
    Do you have the latest patch installed ?
    Do you use any mods ?

    I have the latest patch (1.42 that came with Trials of Luremaster) and I'm not using any mods. But if you have a fighter9>druid that means you're using a dual-classed human, and I thought there are some racial restrictions to elfs. But I guess I was wrong... there's a bug in there somewhere? Any idea where I can report this?

    Strange. AFAIK, pure elven fighter CAN get Grandmastery (5 points) in Largeswords. Multi classes are restricted to specialisation (2 points) only though.

    I hope this is not out of line but it sems right that an elf fighter should be able to go five levels. One way to correct this is to download Dalekeeper, the editor in the IWD section. Go in and remove the skill that was added to the elf and add one to swords. End of frustration!

    Me too. I started reading everything I had on the subject "elf" even the addin stuff from IWD ultimate collection and can't find anything that would limit an elf!

    Theoretically, even if the patches weren't installed correctly, there is no reason why this should unbalance the game mechanics, let alone mess around with the 2nd Edition rules. And yet you all can easily put 5 levels in swords... I'll just get the damn trainer!

    Just wondering if I should report this to someone on this site, this is worth looking into...

    The company and the developers who made the game are no more, so there's no one official left to fix any remaining bugs (and even if they were still around, they wouldn't fix anything any more at this point). Your best bet would be to look around if any modders feel like fixing this bug (if it indeed is a bug) and ask them to do it. Maybe here: http://www.gibberlings3.net/daletweak/index.php

    Andyr and CamDawg are around here regularly, so let's see what they have to say about this.

    Adyghost: Can you see if there is a file named PROFSMAX.2DA in your Override file, and if so post the contents here or at G3? It should look like this:

    If there's no such file don't worry (it will only be present if modified by a patch or mod). I do not know what causes the bug, but if you replace the contents of your file with that above it should fix the problem.

    Fighters should be limited to 3* in missile weapons, but he should be able to put 5* in Large Swords.
