Help, the game is hanging when I try to travel on the world map. I have started a new game and I am currently stuck in the Vale aand unable to get back to Kuldarhar. If I just press return on the main map (to get back to the Vale) all is fine but if I try to mouse to a new location or scroll the map significantly it hangs.

I am playing on Windows98 SE, in a virtual environment under Parallels on an Intel Mac. The Mac OS is fully up-to date but the W98 is unpatched (and normally isolated from the web) apart from installing Direct X from the game CD.
EDIT, I have now updated W98 and the problems remains so I suspect a corrupted file from a grubby CD, any suggestions please?

Gameplay is fine, I have HOW, TOLM & AB installed and except for the hang on the world map everything seems stable and quick.

Are there any particular files that may have been corrupted?

    Should I update Windows?

    Many thanks.

I had the same problem and I'm still having it. I've searched many forums, tried everything, seems no one has found the perfect solution yet.

If I don't have to scroll the map I might be able to click the target location fast enough if I placed the mouse cursor at the right location before leaving the area, but if I have to scroll (if I want to get to the Severed Hand) it's impossible.

You have to use the cheatconsole to travel.
I recommend downloading Dan Simpson's faq/walkthrough, the area codes (and the description how to use the console) are there so you can use them to warp into the selected area.

Chapter 3 will still start normally if you use the console to get to the outside area of the Severed Hand instead of the travelling screen.

I also have Win98SE, so using another windows version might help.
I didn't replace my 98SE version since I use dos regulary and my system is too fast for win95.

Thanks kmonster, at least I know now that I'm not alone.

I wondered if it might come down to cheating just to play normally :( . The problem seems to occur when the program tries to display the travel time to a destination.

I'll download the walkthrough you mentioned.

I had a similar problem with BG2, and ended up just restarting to cure the problem (since none of my other games at the time showed the same glitch). If you're not too far in your game, it's worth a shot.

Using the console instead of the travel map is not really cheating, you don't skip anything (there are no travel encounters in IWD like in BG), only your total in-game time will be a bit lower.
Since there's no time limit the game won't become easier.

The problem occures with all my games, so I doubt that restarting will solve this.

World map issues seem to come up pretty often for people who have the AB mod installed...

Happened before I had the AB mod installed but after Luremaster was added.

My world map was entirely blacked-out in HoW once I had AB. I uninstalled it, went to Barbarian camp, re-installed it, and it worked fine.

Did something silly today, accidentally unistalled IWD, all turned out alright in the end though.

I did a reinstall but this time chose "minimum" (last one was "full") thinking that would reduce the time as uninstall does not delete much. My plan did not work as one of the few things it does delete is chitin.key!

Anyway world travel now works which suggets that one of the cached files was corrupt (HOW , LOLM, AB installed).
