At the moment i'm running around in Luskan, still carrying a Longsword +1, which is in some occasions not good enough to do away with some of the thugs i run into. It's been a while since i last played NWN, but i don't recall having this problem before. I thought i should have had at least a Longsword +2 by now, but none of the merchants can help me with that, and neither do i have any luck in finding it randomly. I really need one though, otherwise i'm going nowhere with the one i have on me.

So where could i go to get something better ?

And while we're at it, what will work on chests? I'm a monk, and my unarmed strike and Kama won't break it...

Well, chests aren't my main concern, if it won't open, i won't waste much time on it and simply move to the next. But most chests will crack after a power attack. It's the creatures that won't die because my sword doesn't do enough damage, like for instance in Kurth's hideout. I was relying on my henchman nearly throughout the entire dungeon.

I've reached chapter 3 now, despite having a sword that doesn't cut it, and found a +2 sword at a merchant's shop, but again i have a feeling i had a better sword the last time i went through all this.

The druid store back in Port Llast has a scimitar +2, while the innkeeper at the Green Griffon has a few nice expensive pieces (e.g. Blade of the Gladiator.)

OTOH, the fact that you haven't found a more powerful weapon already is purely a matter of chance. Most of the chests with magical items carry random drops. This means that if you save and load your game you will most likely get something different. The value of the item is based on your level: the higher your level the more powerful the items. If you don't want to load a game from before (since you can't exit Luskan) try save/loading before the next magical chest you run across and see if you can find a +2 weapon.

Try using a crossbow with magical bolts. The magic damage dealt is small, but a couple of shots should do the trick. This is also an effective way to set off trapped chests/doors without getting hurt (for non-magic classes.)

Well the last game I played I just had an enchnated +1 Long Sword, nothing special, although I think its the best you can do when youve just left for chapter 2... I have to say the weapons are somewhat... irratating..

I don't remember having any great weapons in the whole game (finished with just a +2 kukri (Cutting Star) and +2 mace (Petty Tempest). Found out I could only hurt the balors with my crossbow of affliction. Which was fine with me, I hate overpowered weapons.

You need a +3 weapon to hit balors.

What you find depends on what you deserve. At level of 5 even the +1 weapons are unlikely, expect the fixed items. At level of 12-13 my character started to find +2 weapons... but I am sure it depends on classes too.

Well, i overlooked something, instead of checking out armourers, i usually buy and sell my stuff at the temple, since that's where you go when you use the stone of recall. The armourer in Beoruna's Well had longsword +3 for sale, so that solved my problems. A little later i found a flaming longsword, also +3 but with extra firedamage to evil and undead creatures, which is even better.

    @ Gafgorkion

That was the strange thing - I was hurting the Balor with just normal crossbow bolts (not even enchanted). Maybe the game used the crossbow's enchantment level to determine what the bolts could injure (bug?). Nevertheless, the balors fell to it every time.

I would like to know if you can smith a enchanted Rapier.
As you know you can make weapons yourself (swords, armours, axes whatever) Is it possible to make a rapier? and where? what components are needed

You can get the Nammara rapier from Marrok in Chapter one. Check here at our own SP for more info.

[IMG] Hello, is this thing on? Anyone here been to Marrok's forge?

But seriously, what do I have to do to put you into this new suit of magic armor?

Get out your Adamantine/Dragon Blood/Fairy Dust/Holy Water/Diamond/Iron Wood/Gargoyle Skull and take it (along with your +__ weapon/armor) to the forge... Trade it in on the new model! :thumb:

All the recipes are available from Marrok (he gives you a recipe book)... I can't remember, but I think the new items costs a few gp, but -heck- what else are you going to spend them on? :money:

I'm pretty sure that Marrok is in Neverwinter.

I picked up a nice Katana +4 in Beorunna's Well from the forge.

I agree with Tassadar about overpowered weapons. One of the few problems with games like BGII is that there are handful of well-known really powerful weapons that always appear in the same place. You are almost compelled to get these weapons every time you play so your game (i.e. "I must go and get Celestial Fury before I go to the sewers"). I like the random drop idea for certain cool magic items. That way, your gameplay isn't forced to go in a certain direction just because you already know a certain must-have weapon is there.
