I am playing a 6th level cleric in SoU and have summon creature in my spellbook and memorized spell list, but when I try to cast, the symbol is dark in the radial display and nothing happens.
    Suggestions?

Did you rest after putting it in your memorized list?

I'm new, but not brand new.
I've been trying both the second and third level spells with the same result. I know that sometimes you have to be in the forest to summon forest creatures and such, but I 've tried in numerous locations with the same result.

Do you meet the Wisdom requirement to cast level 6 spells?

Good thought, I'm not sure, but would that keep him from casting 2nd level? His wisdom is 17, which seems reasonable for a 6th level character. He is a half-orc, could that restrict spells?
Summoning spells show up in the memorized spell list, but they are shaded like they've already been cast. I haven't had issues with any other spells.

Hm, at a wisdom of 17, you should be able to cast 7th level spells, so it should not be a problem. IIRC, in 3e (3rd edition D&D rules which Neverwinter is based on), the level of spell you can cast corresponds to your main stat above 10 (INT or WIS). Is it only restricted to summoning spells? Try swapping it to a different spell and resting, see if the new spell works or not.

Are you casting it in the right place? You have to target a summoning spell on a patch of ground not on a person (including the caster). Just a thought. If you try and summon on a person, the spell will be shaded out.

I don't really get the option to cast. I've never seen the symbol "un-shaded" in my casting radial menu no matter where the cursor is. If there was something like alignment or class preventing it, I wouldn't think the smbol would be an option to put into the memorization side of the spellbook. I have tried the 2nd and 3rd level summoning spells with the same result.

Sorry then, I can't think of any other reasons why it shouldn't work.

NWN limits you to a single summon. Have you already got a pet or undead summoned? That could be why it's grayed out.

I currently have the same problem with my level 1 dire badger... I summon him and everything's cool but then he died and I can't summon him anymore even after multiple rests - the symbol is "greyed out" like Vurnd described. Weird. I'm currently in the Tanglebrook estate, maybe you can only summon out in the streets? Going to give it a shot.

Ok... that didn't work. Maybe you have to wait a full 24 hours before you can summon again. That sucks.

OK, now I am 7th level and have the same problem with the 4th level spell "Hammer of the Gods". I figure this is a combat only spell, but it stays greyed out when I am battling scorps in the Interlude.
As far as only summoning one creature at a time, I've never been able to at any level, the symbol looks fine in my book, but has always been greyed in the casting screen.
My son suggested that there may be something like schools that are denied to clerics like they are to wizards. Has anyone heard of that?

    No.

It sounds to me like you're bugged. I assume you're patched and everything?

Are making sure the spells (from the left side of the spell menu) are added to the "memorized" part of the spell book (the right side of the spell menu)? Is your character properly getting a full rest to memorize all the spells? Do you use many cure or harm spells that could be using up your spell slots via spontaneous casting? Have you tried adding the spell to the quickbar, and try to cast it from there? If nothing works, a screenshot is worth 592 words. :)

    Got it working!!!
All I had to do was move the spell from the book to the quick bar. I was trying to cast from the radial menu (right click on character) and it doesn't work from there. Boy do I feel stupid...

No stupidity involved at all. If you want to use the radial menu, you have to right click on the place you want to summon the creature when doing so with a spell. It can be confusing, though, as it works the other way around when summoning an animal companion or summoning through a spell-like class ability. Strange indeed, but good to hear your badger is back savaging the ankles of evil humanoids everywhere :)
