[IMG] This is the first time I've ever used a magic-using character to any real extent. I'm a level 10/4/2 Sorcerer/Pale Master/Lich (from PrC), and I'm on the second level of Undermountain in HotU.

My specialty is fire magic which is, of course, useless against the magic-immune rakshasa. I am thus reduced to summoning dire bears and my familiar, which get hacked to chunks.

My companions are Sharwyn and Deekin, both bards. They constant;y use magic, regardless of the rakshasa immunities.

    1) How can I beat these rakshasa?
    2) Is there any way to tell henchmen not to use magic? It was particularly annoying when, in SoU, I had Xanos the whole way through, and told him to be a barbarian right from the start. First thing he did in the end battle was cast some pitiful level 0 spells, then a level 1 spell, and wasted valuable time.

    Bah, spellcasters.

I always had a couple of Death Armor, Mystill's Acid Sheath, and Tenser's Transformations for situations like the one you're talking about.

If you can't cast them into the dirt, just kick the snot out of them.

That combination works wonders against dragons also.

I'm not sure but in the new order dialogues in HotU it might be possible to tell the henchmen not to cast spells.

Now, another solution would be to try to get your hands on level 9 spells. IIRC, they are only immune to spell levels 0-8.

The last option might be considered cheating, but you could use the console to lower the primary casting stat of you henchmen to a point at which they can no longer cast spell, 9 should be low enough.

Yes, there are many commands available to you when you speak to your henchmen. Spellcasting is one of the things that you can control.

You might also think about choosing something besides two bards as your companions. The half-orc barbarian would be a big help there. :)
