Ok, I have a Wizard 3, Paladin 2, Ranger 1 as a character and am wondering: If I have a level of ranger does that mean I can tlak to animals? And how exactly does it work? Do I just talk to them as I would a person?

Possible Spoiler below. Read at own risk

Ok, in the Find Samuel quest in the Blacklake district, you are supposed to talk to a dog near the Board Liad Bare tavern. But how exactly do you do it? I cannot figure it out for the life of me.

A level of Ranger doesn't allow you to talk to animals, and I am not aware of any spells that allow it either. The Animal Empathy skill allows you to charm or dominate animals, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

And you don't locate Samuel by talking to a dog, you stumble upon him in a prison in a mansion in the Blacklake district. Perhaps you mean you have to talk to the man in Board Laid Bare, who is Captain of the Guard or something (I don't remember his name).

The zoo quest, at least for rangers and druids, does involve 'talking to that animals'. It was pretty straightforward: click on them to initial 'dialogue'. Its not a real dialogue, more or less just a statement that you get your point across to the animal. However, I couldn't figure out how to use that damn Pass Plants spell scroll. So the zoo goes on. Bah.

Never heard anything about any dog in relation to Samuel, so I can't help there.

Perhaps I was wrong about the dog/ Wouldn't be the first time... :D

As for the plant spell, there is a blue field around the tree. Click on it, and the spell is cast automatically.

Hmm, I messed around with a number of trees out in front of the zoo, but I can't recall if any of them had a blue field. Oh well, I'm in chapter 2 now so its too late. Better luck next time, I guess. :)

Heh, the tree is actually inside the compound. Just further down the hall where you release the animals is a door that leads to the Oak Tree.

    Next time then.

Oh, is it? That's funny. :o I thought the druid guy said out front and I only looked around inside briefly. Serves me right, I guess.

You can talk to a dog in the Blacklake district. The dog is in a little niche over on the southwest part of town. When I walked up to it, I got the talk icon when I ran the mouse over the dog. The dog didn't really talk, we did some sort of telepathy thing. I didn't have to use any skills, it happened automatically. It may require a certain skill level in animal empathy.
