[IMG] As I understand, installing the two expansions brings several new features that are usable in the original campaign (such as prestige classes).

My question is: what happens if you are in an existing game at the time you install the expansions? Can the existing game be continued? Will the new features automatically be incorporated or do I need to restart?

Before anyone says it, "Why are you asking about the OC when it sucks?" is not an appropriate answer. :p

From what I know (never tried it though), most of the features that do affect the OC become available as soon as you install the expansions. This definitely applies to anything rule-related, including prestige classes, spells, whatever. Even if some things don't, you can definitely continue your existing game without any drawback or problem.

You install the expansions, you got all expansion skills/feats/divine spells instantly usable. No problems whatsoever.

Well, I installed the expansions and now I CAN'T load my old saved games. So I have to start again. As usual, I have encountered a problem that other people don't seem to encounter.....

The experience will be different from playing the game without the expansion. People who played NWN as it came out had no such goodies for many classes in the game and no prestige classes. For example, my paladin wouldn't have the divine feats and many of his spells, so he wouldn't make such an easy job of some of the encounters. In fact, he would be deprived of his chief strategy, which is bumping charisma and smiting. Perhaps I would have a more well-rounded character instead, but the game wouldn't be as easy.

Are you sure the problems with loading saving games aren't due to game version, as in installing a patch?

I just found out I have the same problem :) I installed the expansion packs after finished the OC, and now I cannot reload old save games. They apparently were creared with a newer version of the toolset (or editor) :)

I am sure other people must have encountered the same problem. Maybe this happens because the latest patch installed for the OC is newer than the expansion?

[Well, what do you know, I installed the latest patches (just press update on the start screen) and now I can load my old games :) ]

I just loaded the patches from the 'Update' button but I still can't load my old games. Oh well. It's not the end of the world, is it?

After I loaded the SoU expansion - the game version went back to 1.31 (or something like that), the OC version I had been playing was 1.65. I had to install the critical rebuild for SoU to bring the version back to 1.65 to be able to play them again.

By that time I had re-started to take advantage of the new expansions feats etc.

That is what happened to me. I had patched the OC to 1.65 but when I installed the expansions it reverted back to whatever version was on the expansion CDs. So I my saved games were on a 'newer' version. To fix this, I had to re-patch the game back up to 1.65. It took hours over my dial up connection.
