NWN playing probs

    im having a problem with my NWN nights game *cries*
    okay, enough of taht. never works anyway.
    It installs okay, it plays okay, but every ten seconds or so out into the game (this time margin has lessened, since the first few times i could play for about half an hour) it just closes down the game. pure and simple. no error message, nothing, just wham, gone.
    Im sure my laptop meets the requirements for the game, and everything, so, what?? other people who've installed with these cd's haven't complained about this, although they also have expansions installed.

    windows xp pro
    1,65 GHz and 512 mb of ram. I installed it and the sotware check or whatever told me it should be able to run with best video quality and whatnot. Not being too familiar with comps beyond the 'put cd in tray, press install' procedure, i trusted this would work out

    I have only the original game, and no downloaded patches

    SP2 = Service Pack 2 for Windows XP. It's been known to cause random problems with a number of games...

    Pretty much running out of options here, I'm afraid... try defragging the hard drive, or making a new install if that doesn't help.

    Slight thread hijack here, but what spec would you people recommend (minimum requirements on boxes are usually tripe, i find) for playing NWN and the two expansions? I only ask because I'm planning on building a PC in a few months for 400-500 quid so I can play stuff like NWN, Morrowind, KOTOR etc. In particular I know very little about graphics cards. Will a 40 quid 128mb nvidia 5200 be sufficient?

    Em, sorry but i think dawn2 said that he (she? sorry if so!) hasn't installed ANY patches. What I would do first would be to download and install the latest patch. Be careful however because there are 3 patches, one for every version, the original, with the 1st expansion and with the 2nd. You'll want the one for the original. Try that out first (it is pretty big, especially if you have a dial-up like me but I think it's worth a shot)

    I had the same problem with nwn on Windows XP Professional on my laptop. It was drawing errors with my Intel 830m card, however, same card,same laptop, Windows XP Home edition and NWN works perfectly.

    Further note, I do have SP2 installed currently, It didn't interrupt my game at all, had it, I would have promptly removed the SP. Before however, when I had the problems with nwn on XP Professional, I only have SP1.
