Ok....first off, a poll, maybe someone can make it an official one in another post.......

How many times have you started the game as a TOTALLY new combination, class, race, alignment, etc. I've done it about 20 already.

Well, now back to my question, Do clerics ALWAYS get this lucky. Before I even got out of the prelude, I had half plate armor. I found 2 mace + 1s already, and after only finding 2 of the reagents for the cure, I have already gotten the Armor of Comfort. These were ALL found items, I didn't buy any of them.

I've tried being fighters, mages, rangers, monks, and a rogue only once. I don't think any of them got as many freebies as the cleric. The monk got a few, but honestly, monks need ALL the help they can get in the beginning....

Another annoying question.....do female characters get a strength penalty? My human girl can only carry 133 lbs. of equipment, got quite tough when I was using full plate armor and carrying a large shield around. I was constantly looking for places to sell things. I had her strength set to 14 when I began. But if I remember correctly, my monk with the same setting could hold like 175 lbs. or something.

Anyway, sorry I put 3 questions in one post....

As for beeing lucky: Maybe it depends on pure random item creation - or maybe it depends on int and chr :D I just don't know. But compared to my moron pally my second char is definitely filty rich - ready to go to Luskan and Neverwinter Wood he has gathered 180.000 gp to spend, since he mainly found excellent stuff by now - and didn't need most of the stuff. While I'm perfectly happy with his core equipment I have to say I deeply regret the lack of decent b'swords in NWN. My char is on lvl-13 now and only wields a normal b'sword +2 :(

I remember that I found a halfplate too in the prelude, I think that's normal, however, two maces +1 are really lucky.

    Update....

After getting halfway through the docks (at the bloodsailors place.....Carricks house) I found yet ANOTHER mace +1. So far the magical weapons I found were 3 mace +1s, about 5 dart +1s a longsword +1, a rapier +1, a halberd +1, and 3 club +1s a light crossbow +1, and a heavy crossbow +2. Armor....WOW, 2 studded leather +1, 1 Armor of comfort, a tower shield +1 (my new friend), 3 breast plate +1s, and 2 scale armor +1s. I'm just getting all the breaks as a cleric I guess. You can also see now why I'm having such a big problem carrying things too though. I mean, with only being able to carry 133 lbs, and 85 of it being used for equipped stuff, I can hardly carry any of the other things I find. I'm now up to level 7 and I just began the blacklake district. The beggers nest was a joke even at a level 4 then 5......turn undead made that SO easy. I just can't wait til Desther sees what I do to all of his empowering zombies........

Anyway, of all the classes I've played so far, I think that I enjoy Cleric and Monk the most. Clerics get some pretty wicked offensive spells, especially if your enemy is undead. Monks though have got to be the ultimate melee fighters. Even though they can't use armor or weapons (my preference...unarmed) they have a knack for taking down large groups quickly while only taking a couple points of damage. I'm really considering dropping Tomi as my hench for my cleric, but I need him to open chests for me......I wish I could tell him to not fight. Even when I order him to stand ground, he'll eventually attack. Oh well, maybe next time I'll take a level in rogue.

    Thanks,
    Atheris

The game is always relative to the character level. Enemies' special abilities (spells etc.) remain unchanged, but their level equals your character. So it makes no difference wether you took a lvl 3 or a lvl 10 character to the beggar's nest. Try starting chapter 2 with a lvl 1 char, and you'll see what I mean. The experience points are relative to your level as well though, so you can't really abuse the system either.

I *think* the last guy you fight in the Prelude drops a Halfplate. Could be dependant on your class, I don't know.

Haven't played anything else yet, but I have found a lot of those items listed here: armor of comfort, +1 weapons, shields and armors. Got 13k gold, and I'm only done with the Peninsula and Beggar's Nest :).

I think there is a big deal of class dependence in whatloot you find in the prelude. As a pally I found the gloves of swordplay on a dead enemy - and when I played a ranger type through the prelude he found an archer's belt instead.

Besides and off topic: Rangers are very impressive - with a good dex and rich of skills they can IMO easily compensate for a poorer AC when wearing light armor using the skills/ feats dualwielding and parry/ improved parry. Promising, maybe something for when I have finished my pally.

    EDIT: So, So ...

Choosing weapon focus will lead to a few +1 weapons before chapter 2.

Ragusa - I've got a 29 AC (and I think 34 vs evil) with my 19 Dex, Shadow Legion light armor, Ring of Protection +5 and Greater Cloak of Protection vs. Evil +5.

    Forashi......

I know what you mean, but I meant that with the Turn Undead feat, the undead just aren't a real problem for clerics, and I assume pallys either. Even when I get to the crypts in CH 2 (the tombs) all I have to do is turn undead as many times as I can, then rest, rinse repeat. I didn't realize that turn undead would instantaniously zap all nearby zombies. Even when I'm at higher levels and they are too, I'm sure it won't be that much of a problem.

In response to the poll question, I have created one character.

My cleric never got that lucky. He got the armor of comfort on the first quest, in the prelude I got half plate, a +1 mace, and a couple minor magic items. Also got a ton of potions.

I think that clerics under 3E rules are just badass in general. Anyone notice how their sav progression is?
I too have encountered the easy zombie kill thing. The Begger's Nest was easier then the prison (just kept turning, watched those zombies die! die! die!)
I've found a ton of magic weapons, unfortunately my cleric can't use half of them but hey, he gets some cash for them. Speaking of magic weapons, has anyone encountered any enchanted morningstars?

You can get a magical morning star (just a +1 though) for 5 smugglers coins at the auction in the docks district. Just talk to the auctioneer in the inn up at the top of the district (can't recall name...). Hope this is helpfull,

    Cheers, Void

My Ranger/Rouge has found many Longswords +1s and lots of magical armors mostly chainmail +1 and studded leather +1 in chapter 1.
